IMS™ Version 11 documentation is available in the IMS information center (HTML) and in the IBM® Publications Center (PDF). IMS Messages and Codes books are also available in BookManager® format in the IBM Publications Center.

IMS PDF bookshelf
The PDF bookshelf is a PDF document that has local links to all the IMS Version 11 books. Using the following PDF bookshelf, you can open any of the IMS Version 11 PDF books by book title, rather than by file name:

Tip: To use the PDF bookshelf, download the PDF bookshelf file and all the PDF book files into the same folder on your computer. If you open this PDF bookshelf directly in a browser, the links in the bookshelf will not work.
Download the PDF Bookshelf by right-clicking the icon, and saving the bookshelf file in the same directory as your IMS Version 11 PDF files.
If you have downloaded a PDF book file that was updated since the last time the PDF Bookshelf was updated, follow the instructions in "Updating the links in the IMS PDF bookshelf".
Updating the links in the IMS PDF bookshelf
You can update the links in the IMS PDF bookshelf to point to the newer versions of the PDF books as those become available.
Prerequisite: Adobe Acrobat 6.0 Professional or later is required.
To update the links:
- Save your new PDF book files into the same folder as the PDF bookshelf file.
- Open the PDF bookshelf with Adobe Acrobat (not with the Adobe Reader).
- Click Advanced Editing. The Advanced Editing tool bar opens.
- Click the Link Tool icon
on the tool bar.
- Right-click the row for a book that you want to update and select Properties.
- In the Link Properties window, click the Actions tab and then click Edit. The Select File to Open window opens.
- Select the appropriate PDF file for the book, and then click Select.
- In the Specify Open Preference window, select the Window set by user preference check box and click OK.
- Click Close.
Repeat steps 4 through 9 for each link in the PDF bookshelf file that you want to update.
Searching across IMS PDF books by using PDF index files
You can to search across all the IMS PDF books from within the IMS PDF bookshelf by using PDF index files (also known as a PDF catalog).
To search across PDF books:
- Create a multi-PDF index (PDF catalog) by following the instructions in the topic Creating a PDF catalog.
- Open the IMS PDF Bookshelf file with the Adobe Reader.
- Click Edit > Search. The Search window opens.
- Click the link Use Advanced Search Options.
- From the Look in list, select Select Index.
- In the Index selection window, click Add.
- In the Open Index File window, select the main index file (.pdx file) and click OK.
- Type your search criteria in the search field and click Search.
