Installer to apply updates and fix packs to IBM® WebSphere® Portal and affiliated products.
Download Description
There are three versions of the WebSphere Portal Update Installer, which can only be used with the appropriate release of the application, to install or uninstall interim or cumulative fixes, fix packs and other maintenance delivery vehicles.
The update installer for V5 can be used with either the WebSphere Portal for Multiplatforms Versions 5.0 or 5.1 offering as well as the WebSphere Portal - Express for Multiplatforms Version 5.0 offering.
The update installer for V6.0 can be used with WebSphere Portal version 6.0 only, including Express editions.
The update installer for V6.1 can be used with WebSphere Portal version 6.1 only, including Express editions.
For Version 6.1:
The documentation is included in the downloadable file for the Version 6.1 Portal Update Installer. In addition to the familar universal update installer (which is not platform specific) we now have available platform specific update installers which include a Java™ runtime environment bundled in to improve your experience when installing a fix pack or other service maintenance.
The platform specific WebSphere Portal Update Installers allow you to invoke the graphical "Wizard" interface directly without setting the necessary environment variables for the Java code to run properly. When using the platform independent update installer, you will still need to set the command shell's environment properly:
Run the following command from the <WAS_profile_root>/bin directory to set up the Java environment for the WebSphere Portal Update Installer:
Microsoft® Windows™: setupCmdLine.bat
Unix™/Linux®: . ./setupCmdLine.sh
i5/OS™: Open a command prompt and enter STRQSH to start the Qshell Interpreter and then enter the following command in the directory where the updatePortal.sh file is located:
For Base: export WAS_PROD_HOME=/QIBM/ProdData/WebSphere/AppServer/V6/Base
For Network Deployment (ND): export WAS_PROD_HOME=/QIBM/ProdData/WebSphere/AppServer/V6/ND
For "Release Date" and other information regarding this Update Installer, refer to the tables below.
For Version 6.0:
The documentation is included in the downloadable file for the Version 6.0 Portal Update Installer, and integrated into the Information Center (link below). With the release of WebSphere Portal version 6.0.1 fix pack 3 (6.0.1.3), we expanded the offering.
For Version 5:
The default location for unpacking the update installer file is the <WP_root>/update directory. Interim fixes can be downloaded to the <WP_root>/update/fixes directory, and fix packs can be downloaded to the <WP_root>/update/fixpacks directory. The location of these directories is arbitrary. If you want to use a different directory, adjust the instructions in this section accordingly.
On Microsoft® Windows® platforms, the pkunzip™ utility might not decompress the download image correctly. Use another utility (such as WinZip®) to unzip the image.
Note that this and future releases of the V5 utility work for either 5.0.x or 5.1x. There is no difference between the utility provided. However, for convenience the download is available from both releases' download pages. Either download may be used with either release of the portal. Instructions and syntax examples are available in the WebSphere Portal version 5.1 Information Center, linked below.
