Support Statement for Microsoft Internet Explorer V8

| | | Abstract | | IBM Quality Engineering is currently evaluating the use of Microsoft Internet Explorer version 8.0 as a client of IBM WebSphere Portal and Lotus Workplace Web Content Management. | | | | | | Content | Microsoft Internet Explorer version 8.0 is generally available and is currently being tested as a Web browser client of IBM WebSphere Portal versions 6.0 and 6.1, Lotus Web Content Management version 6.1 and Workplace Web Content Management version 6.0. Previous levels no longer generally supported are not being tested and the new Web browser will not be supported with those end of life products.
IBM Quality Engineering has tested this Web browser with Fix Pack 6 for WebSphere Portal version 6.0.1 (6.0.1.6) and Fix Pack 5 (6.0.1.5). Refer to "Issues identified with Microsoft Internet Explorer 8 and WebSphere Portal 6.0.1.5 and 6.0.1.6" (#7016045) for more information.
Until the remaining testing is complete, IBM Remote Technical Support will not accept Defect or non-Defect Problem Management Records (PMRs) regarding the use of Microsoft Internet Explorer V8.0 in conjunction with any of the aforementioned product releases other than V6.0.1.5 or V6.0.1.6.
The initial analysis and testing with WebSphere Portal V6.1.0.x has indicated a range of issues with this latest Web browser. Microsoft Internet Explorer V8.0 compatibility mode is less problematic, but it does not resolve all issues. After we have completed our testing, the results will be published in this technote, listing any deficiencies found or necessary fixes.
Administrators are encouraged to record experiences found when using this new Web browser. Problems reported should be attempted using a fully supported Web browser, such as Internet Explorer versions 6 or 7, to determine if the version 8 Web browser is indeed the only one showing the problem. Additional information and support might be available from Microsoft to help ensure compatibility of site content with the newer Web browser.
