Question
What operating system versions are 64-bit only in regards to use with the IBM® WebSphere® Portal installer? How can you install the 32-bit version of WebSphere Portal on these operating systems?
 
Cause
The following operating system versions are 64-bit only:
  • AIX® 6.1
  • Solaris 10

The following operating system versions are available in both 32-bit and 64-bit:
  • AIX® 5.3
  • Linux™
  • Microsoft® Windows®
  • Solaris 9
 
Answer
If the WebSphere Portal installer detects that an operating system is 64-bit, then it installs the 64-bit version of WebSphere Portal.

If the WebSphere Portal installer detects that an operating system is 32-bit, then it installs the 32-bit version of WebSphere Portal.

To install the 32-bit version of WebSphere Portal on a 64-bit operating system, manually install the 32-bit WebSphere Application Server product first. Next, manually install WebSphere Portal into the existing 32-bit WebSphere Application Server installation.
