Tivoli Workload Automation is a set of products provided by IBM to automate all workload management tasks. Tivoli Workload Scheduler is the base product (engine) that helps you automate, plan, and control every phase of your workload production.

If you buy the license for Tivoli Workload Scheduler you are also entitled to use the Tivoli Workload Scheduler for z/OS Agent. You can find all the information related to the Tivoli Workload Scheduler for z/OS Agent in its own Download document.

Tivoli Workload Scheduler is fully functional using its built-in commands. However, you can also use the following graphical user interface to perform most of the engine functions:

RDBMS support

Tivoli Workload Scheduler requires RDBMS support using DB2® and Oracle. This version of Tivoli Workload Scheduler is bundled with a supported version of DB2. If you decide to use DB2 for your database support, you are recommended to download, install, and use the bundled version, which is licensed for use with Tivoli Workload Scheduler.

To use the bundled version, download both of the following electronic images for your platform:

• DB2 Enterprise Server Edition and client
• DB2 Activation
• DB2 National Language Pack

Downloading and assembling the product

The electronic images (eImages) to download are described by platform in the tabbed sections of this document. Download them as follows:

1. You can choose to download the eAssembly eImage for the platform, which contains the eImages for all of the components for that platform, or just the specific component eImage or eImages you require. In either case, make a note of the eImage part numbers you require and go to Passport Advantage Online. Use the part numbers in Passport Advantage to find each eImage and download it.

   On UNIX platforms, you might have to set the ulimit parameter to unlimited if the eImage you want to download is larger than 1 GB.

2. Unpack each of the eImages into the same temporary directory on your system.

3. Follow the detailed instructions in the Planning and Installation Guide to launch the launchpad, from which you can install the Tivoli Workload Scheduler components (and the bundled version of DB2). If you already have other related product installation DVDs or eImages, such as those for Tivoli Workload Scheduler for Applications, you can install those products from the launchpad, as well. The launchpad is included in each installation DVD.

   Instructions are also provided in the Planning and Installation Guide for running silent installations using response files.

If you have already downloaded this for another platform, you do not need to download it again.   Tivoli Workload Scheduler Fault Tolerant Agent 8.6 for AIX, Multilingual CI94MML Contains the installation files for this platform for the Tivoli Workload Scheduler V8.6 fault-tolerant agent, standard agent, dynamic agent, Java runtime, and remote command line.   Tivoli Workload Scheduler V8.6 Dynamic Agent for AIX, Multilingual CI94LML Contains the installation files for this platform for the Tivoli Workload Scheduler V8.6 dynamic agent and the Java runtime.   Tivoli Workload Scheduler V8.6 Launchpad for AIX, Multilingual CI0L2ML Contains the launchpad that you use to install both the Tivoli Workload Scheduler V8.6 components and DB2. It can also install other products in the Tivoli Workload Automation family, such as Tivoli Workload Scheduler for Applications, if you already have the installation media for those products.
