Notes:
  • Beginning with Version 7.1.3, IBM® Tivoli® Storage Manager is now IBM Spectrum Protect™. Some applications such as the software fulfillment systems and IBM License Metric Tool use the new product name. However, the software and its product documentation continue to use the Tivoli Storage Manager product name. To learn more about the rebranding transition, see technote 1963634.
  • Eight character barcodes are required. The last 2 characters must be the media identifier "Lx" where x is the tape cartridge generation. For example, ABC456L5 for an LTO-5 cartridge. Without a proper barcode label, a volume will appear as "unknown media".
  • Cleaning cartridge can be identified if the barcode label starts with the three characters “CLN”, for example “CLN007L2”.
  • Fujitsu ETERNUS LT S2 is not supported with Tivoli Storage Manager Management Console. Use the Administration Center or the TSM Server commands to define the library and label tapes.
  • ELEMent=AUTODetect in the DEFINE/UPDATE DRIVE command is supported.
  • The Fujitsu ETERNUS LT S2 tape library family is available with the following drives.
      • Ultrium 7 support requires IBM Spectrum Protect Server 7.1.3 or later

      Ultrium 8 support requires IBM Spectrum Protect Server 8.1.4 or later
      Ultrium M8 media is not supported
  • The IBM device driver is required for IBM LTO Ultrium Drives. IBM device drivers are available at IBM Fix Central. Choose the following options from the drop-down menus.
    • Product Group -> System Storage
    • System Storage -> Tape systems
    • Tape systems -> Tape drivers and software
    • Tape drivers and software -> Tape device drivers
    • Platform -> Select the platform for the device driver

  • For devices with SAS interface, see Technote 1396706 for information on platforms on which SAS devices are supported.

Library and drive may require different minimum Tivoli Storage Manager levels. Therefore, ensure that both library and drive hardware are supported. See "Supported Devices for AIX, HP-UX, Solaris and Windows" or "Supported Devices for Linux" for more support information including minimum supported version levels and supported platforms.
