Configuration Information for Quantum i6000

Quantum Scalar i6000

Beginning with Version 7.1.3, IBM® Tivoli® Storage Manager is now IBM Spectrum Protect™. Some applications such as the software fulfillment systems and IBM License Metric Tool use the new product name. However, the software and its product documentation continue to use the Tivoli Storage Manager product name. To learn more about the rebranding transition, see technote 1963634.

1. Library capacity
    • 96 drives 5322 slots
    • The number of Import/Export slots is scalable within the library.

2. Barcodes are supported.

3. Quantum Scalar i6000 Library Managed Encryption solutions are supported as follows:
    • Quantum Encryption Key Manager (Q-EKM) supports IBM LTO4 drives.
    • Quantum Scalar Key Manager (SKM) supports HP Ultrium 4 drives.

4. To allow Quantum EKM or Quantum SKM to manage encryption keys, set the DRIVEEncryption option for DEVCLASS to ALLOW.

5. Quantum Scalar i6000 is supported with all drives supported in Quantum Scalar i2000 when it is upgraded from Quantum Scalar i2000. Quantum Scalar i6000 is also available with the following drives. 6. Tivoli Storage Manager server does not support Quantum i6000's Fibre Channel I/O blade with IBM Ultrium 5 and IBM Ultrium 6 drives, in append-only mode. If you have a Fibre Channel I/O blade in your Quantum i6000 library, you can bypass the Fibre Channel I/O blade by connecting the tape drives directly to your Fibre Channel SAN switch. Alternatively, you can disable append-only mode in the Tivoli Storage Manager server by issuing the following Tivoli Storage Manager server command:

Known Problem:
  • Flash 1640191 Potential Data Integrity problem occurs when the Tivoli Storage Manager Server or Storage Agent uses the Quantum Scalar® i6000 Library

Related APAR:
  • IC92965 Potential Data Integrity problem occurs with Quantum i6000

Library and drive may require different minimum Tivoli Storage Manager levels. Therefore, ensure that both library and drive hardware are supported. See " Supported Devices for AIX, HP-UX, Solaris and Windows" or " Supported Devices for Linux" for minimum supported version levels and platforms for these devices.

More information regarding device configuration is available in the Tivoli Storage Manager Administrator's Guide, which can be found in the IBM Tivoli Storage Manager information center.
