Preventive Service Planning

Abstract

Configuration Information for SDLT 220 Drives

Content

Dell PowerVault 110T SDLT 220
Quantum SDLT 220
Tandberg SDLT 220

1. Device type - DLT

2. Supported TSM formats

    SDLT and SDLTC

    DEFine DEVclass devclassname DEVType=DLT FORMAT= SDLT .....
    DEFine DEVclass devclassname DEVType=DLT FORMAT= SDLTC .....

SDLT - Specifies that TSM writes data that uses the SDLT recording format. This format results in a cartridge capacity of 100GB when using SuperDLT I media.

SDLTC - Specifies that TSM writes data that uses the SDLT recording format with compression. This format results in a cartridge capacity of 200GB when using SuperDLT I media.
3. 100GB native capacity and approximately 200GB with compression.

4. Supported media
    SuperDLT tape
5. Backward compatibility
    Write - SDLT/SDLTC
Read - 20GB/20GBC/35GB/35GBC/40GB/40GBC (all backward compatible formats must be written Only on DLT IV media)
6. Issue with backward compatible media DLT IV media in a SDLT drive may result in unpredictable behavior. If DLT IV media is used in a SDLT drive, some drives may return default density of SDLT instead of DLT IV. As a result, TSM may attempt to write on a DLT IV cartridge which is not supported on an SDLT drive. When this happens the SDLT drive will fail the attempt to write and results are unpredictable. This is a known problem.

7. TSM does not support the NBRC SDLT Drive in mixed media (DLT IV media and SDLT media) mode.

8. Device identifications and firmware levels
    Drive ID : DELL SuperDLT1 --- Firmware : 1718
    Drive ID : QUANTUM SuperDLT1 --- Firmware : 1414
    Drive ID : TANDBERG SuperDLT1 --- Firmware : 1414
