IBM TS7610, TS7620, and TS7650G Configuration Information for IBM Sprectrum Protect Server (formerly TSM)

Beginning with Version 7.1.3, IBM® Tivoli® Storage Manager is now IBM Spectrum Protect™. Some applications such as the software fulfillment systems and IBM License Metric Tool use the new product name. However, the software and its product documentation continue to use the Tivoli Storage Manager product name. To learn more about the rebranding transition, see technote 1963634.

IBM 7650G (R1)

IBM TS7650G can emulate tape libraries, tape drives, and tape media. Tivoli Storage Manager supports following emulation mode with IBM TS7650G R1.

Library emulation

• ATL P3000

Drive emulation

• IBM LTO-2 - requires the IBM device driver
• QUANTUM DLT 7000

ProtecTIER version 2.1.6.0 or later is recommended for IBM TS7650G R1.


IBM 7650G (R2/R3), IBM TS7610, and IBM 7620
In addition to emulation mode supported with R1, Tivoli Storage Manager supports following emulation mode with IBM TS7650G R2/R3, IBM TS7610, and IBM TS7620.

Library emulation

• IBM TS3500 (IBM 03584L32) - requires the IBM device driver

Drive emulation

• IBM ULTRIUM-TD3 - requires the IBM device driver

ProtecTIER version 2.2.1.1 or later is recommended for IBM TS7650G R2.

Device Drivers:

• The IBM device driver is required for IBM emulation. IBM device drivers are available at IBM Fix Central. Choose the following options from the drop-down menus.
• Product Group -> System Storage
• System Storage -> Tape systems
• Tape systems -> Tape drivers and software
• Tape drivers and software -> Tape device drivers
• Platform -> select the platform for the device driver that you are looking for

FSI-CIFS Support:
ProtecTIER version 3.2 has introduced the File System Interface Common Internet File System ( FSI-CIFS) backup interface. ProtecTIER's FSI-CIFS interface is supported with Tivoli Storage Manager version 6.2.5 and later on Windows. To back up data to ProtecTIER via FSI-CIFS, use device type FILE.

Notes:

• ProtecTIER version 3.2 with FSI-CIFS has been tested with Tivoli Storage Manager version 6.3.2.
• ProtecTIER version 3.3 with FSI-CIFS has been tested with Tivoli Storage Manager version 6.2.5.

NFS Support:
ProtecTIER version 3.3 has introduced the Network File System (NFS) backup interface. ProtecTIER's NFS interface is supported with Tivoli Storage Manager version 6.2.5 and later on AIX, HP-UX, Linux, and Solaris. To back up data to ProtecTIER via NFS, use device type FILE.

• ProtecTIER version 3.3 with NFS has been tested with Tivoli Storage Manager version 6.2.5.
• Recommendation & restriction for using NFS server as storage.

Known Issues:

• When a replication policy is enabled, a library volume that is checked out from the library to an I/O slot will disappear from the I/O slot as it is moved to a virtual shelf or an I/O slot of the destination library. To check the volume back into the library, the volume must be moved back from the shelf or the destination library to an I/O slot of the library.
