 Preventive Service Planning

Abstract
Configuration Information for HP and Quantum DAT160 (DDS6) Tape Drives

Content

HP DAT160
Quantum DAT160

1. When defining a device class for DAT160 drive, use
  • devtype=4MM
  • format=<format=<DRIVE | DDS4 | DDS4C | DDS5 | DDS5C | DDS6 | DDS6C >
    Example:

    DEFine DEVclass devclassname DEVType=4MM FORMAT=DDS6 .....
    DEFine DEVclass devclassname DEVType=4MM FORMAT=DDS6C .....

DDS6 - Specifies that TSM writes data that uses the DDS6 recording format. This format results in a cartridge capacity of 80 GB when using DAT160 media.

DDS6C - Specifies that TSM writes data that uses the DDS6 recording format with compression. This format results in a cartridge capacity of approximately 160 GB when using DAT160 media.

2. 80 GB native capacity and approximately 160 GB with 2:1 compression

3. Device identifications and firmware levels used during validation
    HP DAT160
    Drive ID : HP DAT160
    Firmware : WP74 (Validated with TSM 5.4.2)
    Firmware : WP82 (Validated with TSM 5.5.1)
    Quantum DAT160
Drive ID : QUANTUM DAT DAT160-000
    Firmware : WP74 (Validated with TSM 5.4.2)
    Firmware : WP82 (Validated with TSM 5.5.1)

4. Supported media
  • DDS-4 (150m) data cartridge with the native capacity of 20 GB
  • DAT72 (170m) data cartridge with the native capacity of 36 GB
  • DAT160 data cartridge with the native capacity of 80 GB

5. All DAT160 drives report drive serial numbers.

6. Automatic cleaning via the CLEANFREQuency=ASNEEDED option is supported in libraries with HP and Quantum DAT160 drives.

7. WORM media are currently not supported.

Library and drive may require different minimum Tivoli Storage Manager levels. Therefore, ensure that both library and drive hardware are supported. See "Supported Devices for AIX, HP-UX, Solaris and Windows" or "Supported Devices for Linux" for minimum supported version levels and platforms for these devices.

More information regarding device configuration is available in the Tivoli Storage Manager Administrator's Guide, which can be found in the IBM Tivoli Storage Manager information center.
