 Preventive Service Planning

Abstract
Configuration Information for AIT Turbo Drives

Content

Sony SDX-250V (AIT Turbo Entry Level)
Sony SDX-450V (AIT-1 Turbo)
Sony SDX-550V (AIT-2 Turbo)

1. When defining a device class for Sony AIT Turbo drives, use
  • DEVType=8MM
  • FORMAT=<DRIVE | AIT | AITC>
    Example:

    DEFine DEVclass devclassname DEVType=8MM FORMAT=AIT .....
    DEFine DEVclass devclassname DEVType=8MM FORMAT=AITC .....

AIT - Specifies that the IBM Tivoli Storage Manager server writes data that uses the AIT recording format. This format results in a cartridge capacity of 20 GB when using Sony AIT-E 20 GB data cartridge.

AITC - Specifies that the IBM Tivoli Storage Manager server writes data that uses the AIT recording format with compression. This format results in a cartridge capacity of 50 GB when using Sony AIT-E 20 GB data cartridge.

2. Sony AIT Turbo drives are not WORM capable.

3. Capacity
AIT-E Turbo : 20 GB native capacity and approximately 50 GB with 2.6:1 compression.
AIT-1 Turbo : 40 GB native capacity and approximately 104 GB with 2.6:1 compression.
AIT-2 Turbo : 80 GB native capacity and approximately 208 GB with 2.6:1 compression.

4. Device identifications and firmware levels used during validation
    Drive ID : SONY SDX-250V --- Firmware : 0100
    Drive ID : SONY SDX-450V --- Firmware : 0100
    Drive ID : SONY SDX-550V --- Firmware : 0100

5. Supported media
    AIT-E Turbo
    • Sony AIT-E 20 GB data cartridge

    • Sony AIT-1 25 GB data cartridge
    • Sony AIT-1 35 GB data cartridge
    • Sony AIT-1 Turbo 40 GB data cartridge

    AIT-2 Turbo
    • Sony AIT-E 20 GB data cartridge
    • Sony AIT-1 25 GB data cartridge
    • Sony AIT-1 35 GB data cartridge

    • Sony AIT-2 36 GB data cartridge
    • Sony AIT-2 50 GB data cartridge
    • Sony AIT-2 Turbo 80 GB data cartridge

6. All Sony AIT Turbo drives report serial numbers.

Library and drive may require different minimum TSM levels. Therefore, ensure that both library and drive hardware are supported. See "Supported Devices for AIX, HP-UX, Solaris and Windows" or "Supported Devices for Linux" for minimum supported version levels and platforms for these devices.

More information regarding device configuration is available in the Tivoli Storage Manager Administrator's Guide, which can be found in the IBM Tivoli Storage Manager information center.
