1. When defining a device class for DAT72 drive, use
  • devtype=4MM
  • format=<format=<DRIVE | DDS3 | DDS3C | DDS4 | DDS4C | DDS5 | DDS5C>

    Example:

    DEFine DEVclass devclassname DEVType=4MM FORMAT=DDS5 .....
    DEFine DEVclass devclassname DEVType=4MM FORMAT=DDS5C .....

    DDS5 - Specifies that TSM writes data that uses the DDS5 recording format. This format results in a cartridge capacity of 36 GB when using DAT72 media.

    DDS5C - Specifies that TSM writes data that uses the DDS5 recording format with compression. This format results in a cartridge capacity of approximately 72 GB when using DAT72 media.

4. Supported media
    o DDS-3 (125m) data cartridge with the native capacity of 12GB
    o DDS-4 (150m) data cartridge with the native capacity of 20GB
    o DAT72 (170m) data cartridge with the native capacity of 36GB

5. All DAT72 drives report drive serial numbers.

6. IBM DAT72 drives with part numbers 71P9145 and 39M5656 are supported only on x-Series systems with Windows or Linux operating system only. IBM DAT72 model 9110-1955 is supported only on p-Series systems with AIX operating system.

7. HP DAT72X6 drive is not supported on SuSE 8.


See "Supported Devices for AIX, HP-UX, Solaris and Windows" or "Supported Devices for Linux" for minimum supported version levels and platforms for these devices.
