Notes:

1. Supported library capacity
  • Maximum capacity is supported.

2. Barcode reader is optional for some Qualstar RLS library models. When a barcode reader is installed, barcodes are supported. A barcode reader is required for Qualstar RLS-8236.

3. Device identifications and firmware levels used during validation
    • Library ID : QUALSTAR RLS-4221 --- FW : 0004
    • Drive ID : SONY SDX-700C --- FW : 0102
    • Library ID : QUALSTAR RLS-4124
    • Library ID : QUALSTAR RLS-4445
    • Library ID : QUALSTAR RLS-4470
    • Library ID : QUALSTAR RLS-5116
    • Library ID : QUALSTAR RLS-5244
    • Library ID : QUALSTAR RLS-6227
    • Library ID : QUALSTAR RLS-8116
    • Library ID : QUALSTAR RLS-8236
    • Library ID : QUALSTAR RLS-8244
    Qualstar RLS-8350
    • Library ID : QUALSTAR RLS-85
    Qualstar RLS-8500
    Validated with TSM 6.2.3
    • Library ID : QUALSTAR RLS-85 FW : 0001E
    • Drive ID : IBM ULTRIUM-HH5 FW : B171 (FC)
    Validated with TSM 6.3.0
    • Library ID : QUALSTAR RLS-85 FW : 0001E
    • Drive ID : IBM ULTRIUM-HH5 FW : B6W7 (FC)
    • Library ID : QUALSTAR RLS-85 FW : 0001E
    • Drive ID : IBM ULTRIUM-HH5 FW : B6W7 (SAS)

4. ELEMent=AUTODetect in the DEFINE/UPDATE DRIVE commands is supported.

5. Qualstar RLS 4000 Series is available with AIT drives, RLS 5000 Series is available with SAIT drives, RLS 6000 series is available with SDLT drives, and RLS 8000 Series is available with LTO drives.

Mixed Media:

1. The Tivoli Storage Manager device driver version 5.2.2 supports mixed generation in Qualstar RLS-8236 with the Ultrium-TD1and Ultrium-TD2 drives. See Libraries with Mixed Media Capability for more information.

2. In order to support mixed generation, barcode labels with L1 and L2 trailing characters are required for the Tivoli Storage Manager device driver to recognize LTO1 & LTO2 cartridges.

3. The library default for the barcode reader is to use check digits when reading the barcode. If you are using barcodes that do not use check digits, this default needs to be changed. The check digit option can be found via Menu panel :

Menu -> Configuration -> Advanced -> Changer -> Labels -> Check Character

Change the value from Yes to No.

Known Problems:

THE DEFINE PATH COMMAND FAILS WITH COMPLETION CODE 321 ON QUALSTAR RLS-8236

The DEFINE PATH command may fail with completion code 321 if there is only one drive in Qualstar RLS-8236.

    Solution:

Set the Drive Last value to the actual last drive number in the partition.

    Menu -> Configuration -> Advanced -> Library - x - Drive Last

where x is the partition being configured.

If your Qualstar RLS-8236 has only one drive installed, the Drive Last value should be set to T1 instead of T2 as there is only one drive in the library.

Then reenable the logical library as it disables itself when a change is made. Contact Qualstar Tech Support for help on the process.

APAR Fix in TSM 5.2.3
  • IC40959 CHECKIN LIBV SEARCH=BULK FAILS WITH ANR83141 - LIBRARY FULL ON QUALSTAR TLS-8XXX AND RLS-8236 LIBRARY

Library and drive may require different minimum Tivoli Storage Manager levels. Therefore, ensure that both library and drive hardware are supported. See " Supported Devices for AIX, HP-UX, Solaris and Windows" or " Supported Devices for Linux" for minimum supported version levels and platforms for these devices.

More information regarding device configuration is available in the Tivoli Storage Manager Administrator's Guide, which can be found in the IBM Tivoli Storage Manager information center.
