Notes:

1. Firmware level during validation:
  • Library : 1.30
  • Drives : 1.00 (GY-2120 DTF Drive)
  • PetaSite Controller(PSC): 1.30 (DZC-B35 Controller on NT)

2. Currently, IBM Tivoli Storage Manager supports SCSI control of PSC only. API control through network is not supported at this time.

3. If you are using large DTF tapes only, Bin-Division is necessary for IBM Tivoli Storage Manager to work properly due to two element addresses per physical slot. This is true for libraries configured with only one DTF drive. See the configuration example below. Sony allows 2 divisions max with one drive in each division.

Example: You have a 30-slot DMS-B35 with one DTF drive. Make sure there is no tape inside of the library before you perform Bin-Division. Otherwise, you will get the "already cassette" error message during Bin-Division.
  • Go to Setup in the PSC(Monitoring and Maintenance Terminal).
  • Select "Bin-Division"
  • Fill in the blanks as follows:
  • BusNo = 0 (division number)
  • UserID = 0 (SCSI id of the host computer's SCSI adapter)
  • Drive = 1001 - 1001 (since you have only 1 drive)
  • Slot = 1 - 30
Assign the entire slots since there is only one drive. A partial assignment of slots may cause abnormal behaviors.)
  • Type = Select either "L-only" or "PetaServe"
The "L-only" and "PetaServe" mode disable the second half of element addresses(3031-3060) and therefore they are not known to IBM Tivoli Storage Manager. Other types, especially "All", may not work properly in the IBM Tivoli Storage Manager environment. For example, with the "All" mode, the current implementation of PSC reports that the 2nd half address 3031 is a valid destination address whether or not 3001 is occupied. Therefore, IBM Tivoli Storage Manager may attempt to move a large tape to the location, which will fail due to its size.
  • Because of the current implementation of PSC, IBM Tivoli Storage Manager does not recommend both large and small tapes be used in a single library but if you choose to do so, make sure you perform Bin-Division where one division is for large only and the other for small only. Again, for the division of large tapes, make sure Type is set to either "L-only" or "Petaserve".
  • For further detailed information about Bin-Division, please refer to Sony documents and contact their technical support.

Library and drive may require different minimum Tivoli Storage Manager levels. Therefore, ensure that both library and drive hardware are supported. See " Supported Devices for AIX, HP-UX, Solaris and Windows" or " Supported Devices for Linux" for minimum supported version levels and platforms for these devices.

More information regarding device configuration is available in the Tivoli Storage Manager Administrator's Guide, which can be found in the IBM Tivoli Storage Manager information center.
