OS Monitoring Agent Installation Failure on RHEL 5.3, for System Z

Problem(Abstract)
Installing the ITM 6.2.1 OS agent (C1MQ0EN) on zLinux (Redhat Enterprise Linux 5.3) fails with 'GSK check error, verifyInstall test failed'
 
Symptom
A message similar to the following may be seen:

runGSkit: return code from command is 99
runGSkit: ----- End of running command -----
runGSkit: error Return error code: 99
runGSkit: error GSKit check failure, script:
/opt/IBM/ITM/ls3263/gs/bin/private_verifyinstall
runGSkit: Removing gskit ver file and gskit component from /opt/IBM/ITM
runGSkit: error ls3263 - GSK check error, verifyInstall test failed

 
Cause
Though this product requires GSKit, it installs its own copy of GSKit in the installation directory.
Hence this is not a GSKit issue as observed firsthand. However, it may be due to the following libraries not being installed:

* libXp-1.0.0-8 (All platforms)
* compat-libstdc++-33-3.2.3
* compat-libstdc++-296-2.95.3 (zSeries)

For the compatibility libraries, please note that both the 32-bit and 64-bit libraries are required. Using RPM to list these libraries should show two entries for the following library, for example:

# rpm -qa |grep compat-libstdc++
compat-libstdc++-33-3.2.3-61
compat-libstdc++-33-3.2.3-61
#

Notably, for this release of Redhat Linux, you would be required to install the following RPM, which does not seem to be pre-installed in a default installation:
compat-libstdc++-33-3.2.3-61.s390.rpm

Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.3 for System Z
 
Diagnosing the problem
Exact diagnosis may not be possible since the installation directory would be deleted when the installation fails. The symptoms point to a GSKit issue even though this is due to missing prerequisites.
 
Resolving the problem
Install all the prerequisite libraries as described above, and run the IBM Tivoli Monitoring installation script again. It should complete successfully.
