Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: DB2 UDB for OS/390 and z/OS Version 7 * * System Administrators are affected by this * * change. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: V7 customers need a convenient way to * * begin checking their DB2 catalogs and * * directories for problems that must be * * remedied before commencing migration * * to DB2 V8. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: Use the new job DSNTIJP8 which is shipped * * in this PTF to identify conditions in your * * DB2 V7 catalog that need to be corrected * * before you begin migrating to DB2 V8. * **************************************************************** Since DB2 V6, each new release of DB2 has provided a job called DSNTIJPM that can be run on the current release to identify conditions that can impede migration to the new release. . This approach, which requires you to buy and SMP/E-install the new release in order to check and if necessary clean up the current release, has been sufficient for migrations to V6 and V7 because DSNTIJPM in those versions contains just 9 queries, none of which identify conditions requiring long lead times to correct. . In V8, however, DSNTIJPM (currently) contains over 25 queries, including some that check for conditions - for example, use of multiple CCSIDs in the same encoding scheme - that are potentially complex, time-consuming, or both to correct. . Therefore, to ensure current V7 customers have adequate time to prepare for V8 migration before actually buying V8, the V8 DSNTIJPM job is now shipped as part of V7. In order not to overlay the current V7 DSNTIJPM job, the new job is shipped as DSNTIJP8. . DSNTIJP8 is customized by the DB2 installation CLIST. However, the DSNTIJP8 contains directions for manual customization if you apply this PTF after you have run the installation CLIST. . Run DSNTIJP8 as soon as possible on your DB2 Version 7 system in order to evaluate it for readiness for migration to DB2 Version 8.
