APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • The number of partitions in DB2 V8 is 4096 decimal, which
    requires two bytes to store it. But in some IFCIDs, e.g.
    QW0021K2 is defined as FIXED(8) and can not possibly hold the
    max value for partition number in DB2 V8/V9.

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    * USERS AFFECTED: All DB2 users of IFC records 21 and 44. *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Partition number can be up to two *
    *                      bytes, starting in DB2 V8, but the      *
    * fields described for this purpose in *
    * IFC records 21 and 44 are only one *
    *                      byte wide (QW0021K2 and QW0044K2).      *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    IFC records 21 and 44 contain fields for partition number, but
    these fields (QW0021K2 and QW0044K2) are only one byte long and
    as of DB2 V8 the partition number can be longer.

Problem conclusion

  • Description of the partition number fields for IFC records 21
    and 44 have been changed to more clearly indicate the location
    of the partition number. The lower two bytes of the four byte
    fields QW0021KR and QW0044KR are already used to contain the
    partition number. No code change was required on the DB2 side,
    only a documentation change in the mapping macros.
    Related message change will be in APAR PK54350.
