IBM Support

Orphaned entries in methods.cfg after disabling login_policy

Troubleshooting

Problem

TAMOS on AIX... In some instances, for a configured TAMOS client, disabling login policy: pdoscfg -login_policy off will leave extraneous entries in methods.cfg as follows: DCE: program = /usr/lib/security/DCE options = authonly options = authonly

Symptom

Users unable to login... subsequent enabling of login_policy still leaves extra entries of "options = authonly" in the methods.cfg file...

Cause

Unknown: reference APAR IY95406

Environment

AIX

Diagnosing The Problem

review contents of /usr/lib/security/methods.cfg

Resolving The Problem

manually remove extraneous "options = authonly" entries... subsequent enabling of login_policy should results in a properly formatted set of entries, including the following:

PDOS:
options = authonly
program = /usr/lib/security/PDOS
PDOS2:
options = authonly
program = /usr/lib/security/PDOS2
