High CPU Utilisation When Using Storwize V7000 as a Backend Storage Subsystem for SAN Volume Controller

Technote (troubleshooting)

Problem(Abstract)

Storwize V7000 controllers will report high CPU utilisation if they are used as a back end storage subsystem behind a SAN Volume Controller (SVC) cluster running V5.1 or V6.1. The actual CPU utilisation reported will increase based on the number of SVC nodes in the cluster.

Resolving the problem

Performance testing has shown that the high CPU utilisation being reported on the Storwize V7000 does not affect the performance of the Storwize V7000 or the SVC, and can be safely ignored.

Upgrading the SVC cluster to V6.2.0.0 or later will resolve the problem which causes the high CPU utilisation to be reported.
