NOTE #1:
The Lotus Notes 8 client is a single installation, however there are two different configurations in which it my be run: Notes 8 Standard Configuration and Notes 8 Basic Configuration.

Notes 8 Basic Configuration is very similar in experience to the instant messaging available in the Lotus Notes 7 client but is not as feature-rich as Standard Configuration. Basic Configuration for Notes 8 is available for client workstations that do not possess adequate memory (RAM) to run in Standard Configuration mode. As in previous releases of Notes, clients running the basic configuration can access only applications that reside on Lotus Domino servers and can utilize only the version 3.x implementation of embedded Sametime Contacts (buddylist data) stored in vpuserinfo.nsf on the Sametime server.

To run Notes 8 in Standard Configuration: launch the application with the shortcut created by the installation process.

To run Notes 8 in Basic Configuration:
  1. Create a shortcut on your desktop that points to nlnotes.exe. Nlnotes.exe is located in the file system directory that contains the Lotus Notes executable files. (Do no confuse nlnotes.exe with notes.exe.).

    Or
  2. Create a shortcut which points to notes.exe within the Notes program directory and be sure to append the string "-basic" to the end of the shortcut's target.
    For example: "C:\Program Files\Lotus\Notes\notes.exe" -basic

NOTE #2:
Screen capture is the ability for users to capture part of their screen and to send it to others. This functionality is only supported under a full Sametime Server product license. To allow users to use Screen Capture, the system administrator must enable the "Allow all Sametime Connect features to be used with integrated clients" policy setting on the Sametime server:

Support for rich text format (RTF) characters includes RTF fonts (colors, font styles) as well as the standard emoticon set provided with the product when using the Lotus Notes (Standard Configuration) and (Basic Configuration). Screen capture is not supported in configurations that lack the full Lotus Sametime license.

NOTE: Support for rich text is included in the Domino Server licence whereas support for screen capture capability requires the full license for Lotus Sametime Server.

Additional information

The Sametime 8 server contains the new policy document "Allow all Sametime Connect features to be used with integrated clients".
