Deleted documents not moved to trash even though soft deletions is enabled

 Technote (troubleshooting)

Problem
A user enables soft deletions in their IBM Lotus Notes mail file. Instead of deleted messages appearing in the Trash folder, the resulting behavior appears identical to a hard deletion.

Symptom
For example, the user selects a message for deletion and an "X" appears in the column next to the sender's name in the In-box view; when the F9 key is pressed, the message is deleted.

Resolving the problem
This issue appears to be isolated to mail files that are based on customized templates. Users that experience this issue should implement the following workaround:

1. Create a temporary folder to store documents that are currently in the In-box view. Note that, if this step is not taken, those documents will be moved to the All Documents view after the mail file design is replaced (Step 3).

3. In the Designer client, delete the "Database Script" field via Other -> Database.

2. Replace the mail file design with a standard mail template (which will recreate the field from step 2).

4. Move the documents from the temporary folder (created in Step 1) back to the In-box view.
