Knowledge Collection: Lotus Products Daylight Saving Time
|
| | | Abstract | | This Knowledge Collection provides an overview of the information provided by Lotus for addressing the impact of Daylight Saving Time changes. | | | | | | | | Content | - Revisions to time zone offsets and/or Daylight Saving Time (DST) rules require that all server and client operating systems be updated to recognize the new settings (with the exception of Lotus Domino® i5/OS).
- If no action is taken, this can result in the operating system as well as some applications being off by 1 hour.
- Technotes are publicly available for all impacted Lotus products. Review the list below to familiarize yourself with the content that is available for each product.
- 2008 INFORMATION: Operating systems and applications previously prepared for this revision do not need to be updated again in 2008. However, if you reinstalled an operating system or Lotus Notes®/Domino, or upgraded to a later release, then it's possible that DST patches and/or workarounds should be reapplied.
Refer to the applicable time zone section(s) in following document: "Knowledge Collection: Daylight Saving Time (DST) in Notes/Domino" (# 7003045) .
The related Lotus Notes®/Domino document will include the following information:
- Details the steps necessary to prepare a Notes client or Domino server for changes.
- Provides instructions for manually updating the Domino Web Access (DWA) Forms file.
- When applicable, contains a link to a document which will include agents with operational instructions that can be used to update Calendaring, Scheduling, and Resource Reservation entries, as well as Resource documents.
NOTES: - Notes and Domino rely on the Notes client and/or Domino server and the operating system for certain time-related functions.
- Domino Web Access relies on the client operating system and the DWA Forms file on the Domino server for Calendar time zone details.
- Time sensitive, scheduled events, and Calendar entries will be incorrect by 1 hour.
Java Daylight Saving Time (DST) changes for Notes/Domino involving Java (#1250136) - List of Java classes affected by DST changes.
- Describes two affected mechanisms in which time/date functionality can be used in Domino using the Java API.
- Explains when (and when not) a Notes/Domino DateTime object accessed via Java will be dependent on Java instead of Domino.
- Describes how to determine if a JVM version contains the updates.
- Provides a link to information on how to update the JVM using the IBM JTZU tool.
Operating System Specific IBM Series i Setting up Domino iSeries for Daylight Saving Time (1092536) - Details the necessary steps for preparing Domino on IBM Series i.

Macintosh DST 2007 hotfixes for Lotus Notes client on Macintosh" #4014840 - A hotfix for Notes 6.x releases is available. The hotfix allows you to customize DST rules settings for time zones. Note: The same functionality exists in the shipped Macintosh versions of Notes 6.5.6 and 7.0.2. The Notes Macintosh 7.0.3 release is dependent on the operating system for DST rules.
Troubleshooting: Troubleshooting tips for Notes and DWA regarding Daylight Saving Time (DST) revisions (#1254813) - How to tell if the updates have been applied to the operating system or Notes.
- Description of behavior to be aware of and actions to take.
- Describes how to determine if a Notes or DWA client is properly recognizing the updated DST rules.
- Describes various behaviors which may be observed with Notes/DWA Calendaring and Scheduling entries, with corrective details and/or troubleshooting steps to resolve.
- Describes how to build a Calendar view which notates correct and incorrect entries (based on the DST rule in place when the entry was created), as well as for entries acted on by a DST fix agent, whether the entry was corrected.
Additional issues to be aware of: Daylight Saving Time (DST): Date/Time entries for previous years are adjusted by change to new DST rules (# 1255630) Daylight Saving Time (DST) effects on Date/Time fields in Lotus Notes and Domino (# 1249177) Clock on Welcome page of Notes client is off by one hour (#1193771) Notes overwrites the operating system setting for Daylight Saving Time (1202361) Effects on Date/Time fields in Lotus Notes and Domino (#1249177) - A LotusScript example is provided (to demonstrate one approach to a solution.
General DST issues Scheduled agents and tasks execute an hour later than expected on the first day of Daylight Saving Time (DST) (# 1256479) Meeting times are off by one hour in Two Day and One Work Week views During the first weekend/week of Daylight Saving Time (# 1167716) Poor performance of Domino on iSeries during Daylight Saving Time change (1224799) Domino iSeries server performance problems when system time is changed (1102928) General information What does the 'Use the Operating System's Timezone Settings' field in Notes Location doc do? (1091291) Daylight Saving Time (DST) information for Domino Access for Microsoft Outlook (#1249899) - Relies on the Domino server and the operating system for certain time-related functions.
- Administrators must update the operating system and then correct calendar entries.

Daylight Saving Time (DST) information for Lotus Mobile Connect (#1251610) - Must have its Java updated to revised DST rules.
Daylight Saving Time (DST) information for Lotus Sametime (#1248420) - Times that appear in chats are impacted. NOTE: The JTZU tool does not address this for all Sametime releases and additional updates can be required.
- Scheduling of meetings will be off. Several steps are required and are detailed in the technote.
Steps for running the JTZU tool on Sametime servers (#1254671) Daylight Saving Time (DST) information for Lotus QuickPlace (#1248850) - Updating the operating system is all that is necessary.
- Note: There is one minor issue that can be observed when QuickPlace is hosted by a non-Windows Domino server. If users choose the option to display times in a different time zone from the server, the outdated DST rules will be used if the appropriate Domino fix has not been applied. To determine if a fix for your time zone has been released, check the Notes/Domino technote for your time zone in the following document: Knowledge Collection: Daylight Saving Time (DST) in Notes/Domino (#7003045)
