Is the Intel-based Macintosh a supported platform for Notes?
Technote (FAQ)
Question
Apple Incorporated has released a new architecture for their desktop and notebook computers based on Intel® processors. Is the Lotus Notes® client supported on this hardware if the OS X and Notes versions are otherwise supported for Macintosh?
Answer
Lotus Notes® 7.0.2 client on Macintosh is the first release to support for Macintosh computers that run on processors from Intel Corporation. These Intel-based Macintosh models are not a supported platform for Notes releases prior to 7.0.2.
Notes 7.0.2 for the Mac runs on the Macintosh OS X 10.4 “Tiger” operating system and includes integrated awareness and chat functionality found in the Notes client on Microsoft® Windows®.
Beginning with Notes 8.5, the PPC processor is supported with the Notes Basic client only.
Supporting Information:
"Rosetta" is a lightweight dynamic translator for Mac OS X distributed by Apple. Rosetta enables applications compiled for the PowerPC® family of processors to run on Apple systems that use Intel processors. Lotus Notes 7.0.2 for Macintosh is developed as a Universal application and does not rely on Rosetta to do any translation of code to run natively on Intel processors.
