Attention: The following features of IBM OMEGAMON for Db2 Performance Expert on z/OS 5.4 are deprecated and have been removed from releases starting with 5.4:

• SQL Dashboard feature and related Stored Procedure monitoring drill down functionality

This document is the central README about the delivery, installation, and maintenance updates for:

• OMEGAMON® for Db2 Performance Expert Agent for Db2 Connect Monitoring(short: Performance Expert Agent)
• OMEGAMON® for Db2 Performance Expert Client(short: Performance Expert Client)

This document will be updated to indicate changes to procedures and product prerequisites. Therefore, check this document regularly for updates.

Delivery of OMEGAMON Performance Expert Agent and Client

Maintenance for the Performance Expert workstation components is provided through the web to reduce the need for large PTFs and the associated challenges to customers. 

Starting with OMEGAMON for Db2 Performance Expert/Performance Monitor Version 5.1.0, the GA (general availability) level code, additional functionality, and maintenance for Performance Expert Agent and Performance Expert Client are available through Fix Central.

Important: The version level of the Performance Expert Agents and Performance Expert Clients is independent of the version level of OMEGAMON for DB2 Performance Expert/Performance Monitor on z/OS. Always use the most recent level, regardless of the product version/release that you have installed. Each level is a complete installation package.

Installing OMEGAMON Performance Expert Client and Performance Expert Agent

To install the Performance Expert Agent and Performance Expert Client components, follow the directions in the Configuration and Customization Guide. The guide contains the most up-to-date information that is appropriate for all versions of the product.

Compatibility with OMEGAMON Collector Performance Expert Server Subtask

Dependencies exist from the Performance Expert Server Subtask to the Performance Expert Agent and to the Performance Expert Client. Because of these dependencies and to take advantage of the latest enhancements, apply recent OMEGAMON Collector Performance Expert Server Subtask maintenance when you update a Performance Expert Agent or Performance Expert Client.

The following messages that are displayed when the server is started, where yy is the year and ddd is the day of the year, show the current maintenance level:

The Subtask build level and the corresponding PTF that work with a new client or agent are listed below with each update in the "Performance Expert Agent enhancements and fixes" and "Performance Expert Client enhancements and fixes" sections below.

Older server build levels might be compatible but have not been explicitly tested. Newer server build levels are compatible unless the Performance Expert Server Subtask PTF describes otherwise in a ++HOLD section.

Performance Expert Agent enhancements and fixes

Note: The "Db2 Performance Expert Agent" and "Db2 Performance Expert Client" software are shared components. Starting with version 5.5.0 the Db2 Performance Expert Agent will be available only for Windows 64-bit and Linux on zSeries platforms. If additional platform support is needed contact IBM support.

Level E9203 includes the following:

• Updated Java runtime environment to version 11.0.22+7

Level E9202 includes the following:

• Updated Java runtime environment to version 11.0.21+9

Level E9201 includes the following:

• Updated Java runtime environment to version 11.0.19+7

Level E9200 includes the following:

• Support of OMEGAMON for Db2 Performance Expert on z/OS V5.5.0.

Level E9102 includes the following problem fix:

• Improvements added to address static code analysis related findings.
• The Java Runtime Environment has been upgraded for Linux on pSeries.

Level E9101 includes the following problem fix:

• PH29650/UI73402
  The JDBC driver was updated to support the Db2 Database V11.5.
• The Java Runtime Environment has been upgraded/replaced by OpenJDK.

Level E9027 includes the following problem fix:

• PI74795/UI47995
  Problems during upgrade installation of Performance Expert Agent level E9026.

Level E9026 includes the following problem fix:

• PI69924/UI41675 PI69926/UI41948
  Java Runtime Environment has been updated to a newer JRE version.
• Support of OMEGAMON XE for DB2 Performance Expert on z/OS V5.4.0.

Performance Expert Client enhancements and fixes
Successfully tested with Performance Expert Server sub task build level PH57910/UI96266.

Level L8708 (PH57910/UI96266) includes the following improvements:
    • Enabled Multi Factor Authentication option for Admin Foundation Performance Expert client integration
    • Fixed issue with built-in Eclipse help system not launching
    • When using a new Collect Report Data (CRD) step in a Performance Warehouse process definition, a default OP buffer size of 32MB is used (previously used size was 512KB)
    • Eclipse help file updates
    • Updated Java runtime environment to version 11.0.22+7
This Level of the Client can be used with OMEGAMON for Db2 Performance Expert on z/OS V5.3.0, V5.4.0 and V5.5.0

Level L8707 (PH55939/UI95090) includes the following improvements:
    • New functionality introduced for single query visual explain using Admin Foundation
    • New SQLDI fields for IFCID 369 (SQL Data Insight) in the "Aggregated Accounting" screen under "Statistics Details" introduced
    • Updated UTILITY_HISTORY ZPARM option to display "Object" as value instead of "O" in "Db2 Utilities Parameters Panel 4 (DSNTIP63)" screen under "System Parameters"
    • Fixed Buffer Pool Comparison data to be displayed correctly in the visual bar chart
    • New fields added to "Thread Details" and "Statistics Details" for autobind failures, addressing impact of package invalidation (IFCID 2 and IFCID 148)
    • Fixed issue where data sharing groups were not shown in the drop down menu's
    • Eclipse help file updates
    • Updated Java runtime environment to version 11.0.21+9

Level L8706 (PH54751/UI93655) includes the following improvements:

• New QW0402 fields introduced for system profile exceptions and warnings in "Statistics Details" under "System Profile Exceptions" panel
• Fixed a deadlock when performing actions with PE Client while logging in to a collector at the same time
• New ZPARM "Enable accelerator specific results" (QWP4AEASR) introduced in "System Parameters" under "Query Accelerated Preferences, Options (DSNTIP82, DSNTIP8A)"
• Implemented real-time delta and interval support for IFCID's 411 and 412, in "Statistics Details" under "Distributed Data" for panels "Applications" and "Users"
• Fixed a bug where wrong table item information for 411 and 412 IFCID's was shown when switching DSG member items
• Various fixes addressing potential deadlocks and freezes while using PE Client
• Eclipse help file updates

Level L8705 (PH53163) includes the following improvements:

• Fixed unreadable SKPT Unicode characters being displayed in "Locked Resources" under "Thread Details"
• Fixed collector being flooded with error messages, if collector is restarted while the client is left open while using MFA
• Two new panels for IFCID 411 (Applications) and IFCID 412 (Users) introduced under "Distributed Data" in "Statistics Details"
• New ZPARM "Maximum memory in MB for AI data caching" (MXAIDTCACH) introduced under "Performance and Optimization (DSNTIP8, DSNTIP81)" in "System Parameters"
• Eclipse help file updates
• Introduced Windows 11 support for Performance Expert Client
• Updated Java runtime environment to version 11.0.19+7

This Level of the Client can be used with OMEGAMON for Db2 Performance Expert on z/OS V5.3.0, V5.4.0 and V5.5.0

Level L8704 (PH51040/UI91411) includes the following improvements:

• Fixed an error in the Accelerators page under Statistics Details not opening, if the Product ID of the monitored Accelerator contains letters. For example if the product ID is AQT0705A for an IDAA at level 7.5.10
• Fixed Synch-up calls (QBGLSU) field opening wrong Eclipse help entry under Statistics Details, Group Buffer Pool workspace
• Two new counters introduced in Statistics Details "Current DBATs suspended due to profile exception" (QDSTDBPQ) and "Maximum DBATs suspended due to profile exception" (QDSTMDPQ), under "Distributed Data" workspace.
• Three new ZPARM counters introduced in System Parameters, under workspaces:
  • Query Accelerator Preference, Options: IN predicate list with more than 32K elements (QWP4INLGT32K)
  • Other Parameters: Db2 lock avoidance for singleton enabled (QWP4LSSIC)
  • Routine Parameters: Max number of external user-defined functions for each thread (QWP4MXUDF)
• Removed 32bit launch target from db2pe.bat and db2pe_debug.bat
• Eclipse help file updates
• Updated Java runtime environment to version 11.0.18+10

Level L8703 (PH48556) includes the following improvements:

• Fixed recurring timeout message DGOK1446 when viewing Event Exceptions
• New Eclipse help file and counter translations for English, Japanese, Traditional Chinese and Simplified Chinese languages
• New counter for PACKAGE DEPENDENCY LEVEL (QWP4PKGDEPLVL) ZPARM in Systems Parameters workspace "Appl. Prog. Defaults 2, 3 (DSNTIP4, DSNTIP41)"
• Updated Java runtime environment to version 11.0.17+8

This Level of the Client can be used with OMEGAMON for Db2 Performance Expert on z/OS V5.3.0, V5.4.0 and V5.5.0
 

• Four new counters were added for Group Buffer Pool sections under Statistics Details and Thread Details pages:
  • QBGLWX: Requests with async cross-invalidation
  • QBGLSU: Synch-up calls 
  • QBGAAS/QBGLAS: Suspends waiting for cross-invalidations to complete
• Label for metric QBACSYIT changed from "Total number of CPU time zHyperLink" to "zHyperLink Elapsed Time"
• "SE SQL Data Insights" field indented to fall under "SE CPU Time" in Thread Details page
• Eclipse help updates

Level L8701 includes the following improvements:

• Additional field level and topic helps added.
• Enhance data transmission protocols for communication between the Performance Expert Client and the OMEGAMON PE Server subtask.
  For details on configuring the Performance Expert Client to use AT-TLS encryption, refer to the OMEGAMON for Db2 documentation (Configuring AT-TLS encryption).

Level L8700 includes the following improvements:

• Support of OMEGAMON for Db2 Performance Expert on z/OS V5.5.0, which supports real-time monitoring of Db2 13 subsystems
• Various enhancements that allow monitoring of the new Db2 13 functions:
  • SQL Data Insights via Thread Details page
  • Global and Group Buffer Pool residency times via Statistics Details and System Parameters pages
  • Improved concurrency control("SET CURRENT LOCK TIMEOUT") via Thread Details, Statistics Details, System Parameters and Event Exceptions Details
  • New Latch Classes in Statistics Details
  • New DDF counters for DBAT Pooling and DBAT contraction monitoring in Statistics Details
  • New Plan Authorization Cache improvements("Reduce RACF contention") via Statistics Details
  • New Db2 Commands via Statistics Details
  • New ZPARMs via System Parameters
• New Profile Warning/Exception monitoring subpage in Statistic Details page for Db2 12 and 13 subsystems
• The Java Runtime Environment has been upgraded.

Level L8610 (PH41353/UI78884) includes the following improvements:

• Enhancement ‘Db2 Currency’:
  • 4 new Db2 parameters were added under the System Parameters Details page:
    • FTB_NON_UNIQUE_INDEX subsystem parameter specifies whether fast index traversal (FTB) is enabled for non-unique indexes under SQL object defaults panel 2.
    • REORG_INDEX_NOSYSUT1 subsystem parameter specifies whether the REORG INDEX SHRLEVEL REFERENCE or CHANGE utility should avoid using the SYSUT1 or work data set to hold the unloaded index keys under DB2 Utilities Parameters Panels 4.
    • REORG_IC_LIMIT_DASD subsystem parameter specifies the maximum number of sequential DASD image copies that the REORG TABLESPACE utility can allocate under DB2 Utilities Parameters Panels 4.
    • REORG_IC_LIMIT_TAPE subsystem parameter specifies the maximum number of sequential TAPE image copies that the REORG TABLESPACE utility can allocate under DB2 Utilities Parameters Panels 4.
• Improvements added to address static code analysis related findings.
• Java Runtime Environment was updated to address the latest common vulnerabilities.

This Level of the Client can be used with OMEGAMON XE for DB2 Performance Expert on z/OS V5.2.0, V5.3.0 and V5.4.0.

Level L8609 (PH37183/UI77534) includes the following improvements:

• Enhancement ‘Db2 Currency’:
  • 6 new parameters called the Db2 Currency parameters were added under the System Parameters Details page:
    • UTILS_BLOCK_FOR_CDC has been added which specifies whether to block utilities for tables or table spaces with replication enabled under Db2 Utilities Parameters subpage.
    • ALLOW_UPD_DEL_INS_WITH_UR has been added that can be used to specify whether DB2 should allow INSERT, UPDATE or DELETE statements to be prepared with the isolation-clause of WITH UR under Other parameters subpage.
    • UTILS_USE_ZSORT has been added which specifies whether DB2 utilities use the IBM Integrated Accelerator for Z Sort interface when invoking DFSORT for utility processing under DB2 Utilities parameters subpage.
    • DISALLOW_SSARAUTH has been added that determines whether user address spaces are blocked from setting a DB2 address space as a secondary address space under Other parameters 2 subpage.
    • Additional option "Use only new accelerator type' in the QUERY_ACCEL_OPTIONS has been added under Query Accelerator Preference subpage.
    • Additional option for INDEX_MEMORY_CONTROL parameter has been added that specifies memory limit for selected indexes. 
  • 12 new counters called the FL509 statistics level metrics were added under the Statistics Details page:
    • FTB threshold: minimum number of index traversals under Miscellaneous subpage.
    • Total number of indexes which meet FTB criteria under Miscellaneous subpage.
    • Total number of indexes which meet FTB criteria and the traverse count is above the threshold under Miscellaneous subpage.
    • Total memory allocation for all FTBs for this member under Miscellaneous subpage.
    • Number of indexes for which FTB existed in the previous run of in-memory optimization under Miscellaneous subpage.
    • Number of indexes for which FTB exists in the current run of in-memory optimization.
    • Number of times Insert Algorithm 2 pipe re-enable was attempted under Miscellaneous subpage.
    • Number of times Insert Algorithm 2 pipe re-enable was successful under Miscellaneous subpage.
    • CPU time for I/O interrupt processing for the Database Services under CPU Times subpage.
    • CPU time for I/O interrupt processing for the System Services under CPU Times subpage.
    • CPU time for I/O interrupt processing for the IRLM under CPU Times subpage.
    • CPU time for I/O interrupt processing for the DDF under CPU Times subpage.
• Fixes to existing pages/counters:
  • The issue of currently active threshold set not being displayed was fixed. 
• Improvements added to address static code analysis related findings.

Level L8608 (PH33376/UI75713) includes the following improvements:

• Enhancement ‘zHyperLink metrics’:
  • 3 new counters called the zHyperLink statistics level metrics were added under the Statistics Details page:
    • Compression Dictionary data set access requests counter under Log Manager subpage.
    • Total zHyperlink log requests under Log Manager subpage.
    • Number zHyperlink log requests that failed to be synchronous under Log Manager subpage 
• Enhancement ‘Db2 Currency’:
  • 6 new counters called the Db2 Currency metrics were added under the Statistics Details page:
    • Conditional lock requests that failed during insert operations under Locking subpage.
    • Conditional lock request retries with an unconditional request under Locking subpage
    • Number of infrequently accessed data sets that were closed under Open/Close subpage.
    • Number of Utility-Access-Only data sets that were closed under Open/Close subpage.
    • Number of times that RDS Sort was performed under Miscellaneous subpage.
    • Number of times that RDS Sort was performed using IBM Intergrated Accelerator for Z Sort (SORTL) under Miscellaneous subpage. 
  • 2 new counters called the Db2 Currency metrics were added under thread level metrics were added under the Thread Details page:
    • Number of times that RDS Sort was performed under Overview subpage.
    • Number of times that RDS Sort was performed using IBM Intergrated Accelerator for Z Sort (SORTL) under Overview subpage.
• Fixes to existing pages/counters:
  • The issue of EDM Pool DBD Requests showing negative number was fixed.
  • Incorrect date format in Buffer Pool Analysis wizard for Long-Term analysis was fixed.
• Java Runtime Environment was updated to address the latest common vulnerabilities.
• Improvements added to address static code analysis related findings.

This Level of the Client can be used with OMEGAMON XE for DB2 Performance Expert on z/OS V5.2.0, V5.3.0 and V5.4.0.

Level L8607 (PH29650/UI73402) includes the following improvements:

• Enhancement ‘zHyperLink metrics’:
  • 5 new counters called the zHyperLink thread level metrics were added under the Thread Details page.
  • 2 new counters the zHyperLink statistics level metrics were added under the Statistics Details page.
• Enhancement ‘InSync metrics’:
  • 6 new counters called the IDAA Integrated Synchronization metrics were added under the Statistics Details page.
• Enhancement ‘FL508 zPARMs’:
  • 2 new counters called the FL508 zPARMs were added under the System Parameters (ZPARMS) page.

This Level of the Client can be used with OMEGAMON XE for DB2 Performance Expert on z/OS V5.2.0, V5.3.0 and V5.4.0.

Level L8606 (PH28054/UI72066) includes the following improvements:

• Enhancement ‘Location metrics’:
  • 33 new counters called the location metrics were added under the Statistics Details page.
• Enhancement ‘IRLM statistics metrics’:
  • A new panel called ‘IRLM statistics’ was implemented under the Statistics Details page. It includes a total of 31 new counters.
  • 8 new counters called the IRLM system activity counters were added under the Statistics Details page.
• The Java Runtime Environment was updated to address the latest common vulnerabilities.
• Fixes to existing pages/counters:
  • The issue of not being able to run Explain for SQL statements was fixed.
  • Some labels were fixed for already existing location metrics.

This Level of the Client can be used with OMEGAMON XE for DB2 Performance Expert on z/OS V5.2.0, V5.3.0 and V5.4.0.
