Transaction Summary Report data differs between releases (V420 and V430/V440)

Troubleshooting

Problem

The Transaction Summary Report data differs between IMS Performance Analyzer V420 and V430/V440 as shown in the sample below.

Symptom

Here is a sample (using the same input log file) of how different the reports can be between releases:

Avg Avg Avg Max Max Tran DB Call DB Wait NBA NBA OBA Trancode Count Count Count Used Used Used With V430: TranX 4 12717 0 4602 9233 0 With V420: TranX 674 75 0 27 30 0

Cause

After customer concerns about the way IMSPA reported non-message driven transactions (that access FP database), a change was made in V4.3. Prior to V4.3, every BMP syncpoint was treated as a single transaction. But customers found this confusing, as it distorted the overall transaction count, making it meaningless. To resolve this, IMSPA V4.3 introduced the following change:
A non-message driven BMP is now reported as a single transaction, and statistics for each syncpoint are accumulated and reported at BMP end (or end of IMS log).

The old (fixed format) Fast Path transit reports did not change, and remain available to report each syncpoint individually. This change was not included in the Summary of Changes of the User's Guide. The next edition of the book will include an update that describes this change.
