How to convert a version file to source DDL file

Question & Answer

Question

How do I convert a version file back to a source DDL file?

Answer

The steps listed in this writeup will take an Object Compare version file and return to you a useable DDL file. When the DDL statements are not available, but the version file that was created from it is, there is a way to decrypt the version file back into a DDL file. The
paragraph below will guide you through the process needed to perform the conversion.

To create a DDL from a version file:

  • Go to the Object Compares main panel.
  • Reset the Status, and go into Option 1 for the source file. Put your version file name in the Source is from version file area.
  • Set up a dummy target file. This can be accomplished by going into Option 2.
  • Specify the target file by selecting Target is table from DB2 catalog.
  • Select table "SYSIBM.SYSDUMMY1."
  • Go into Option 5 to generate compare jobs, and have Object Compare create its jobs. Be sure to change Generate apply jobs from No to Yes.
  • Run Jobs T02DB2, T03COMP, and T04GAPY. T04GAPY will generate a few files.

The file that has the DDL, without your first having to edit it, is "DDL.CREATE". The Changes file also has the DDL statements, but to use them you would have to do some editing of this dataset.
