RC00016 when generating a detail report with Log Analysis Tool

Question

When using DB2® Log Analysis Tool, a general report is created without error. Then, the JCL for a detail report is generated and submitted but the job fails with RC00016, and the following error message is generated: ALAA156I: START EDICT/SORT WER400A DMTLAT ,STEP4 , -EDICT IS AN UNINITIALIZED SEQUENTI ALAA352E-General SORT failure...see SYSOUT output for step IEF404I DMTLAT - ENDED - TIME=13.46.57 AUTOCODE DMTLAT STEP4 RCODE00016 J24666

Answer

When this problem occurs, it is likely that SyncSort is rejecting an unitialized input dataset.

To resolve RC00016, try one of the following:

  • Bypass SYNCSORT (if possible) and use native Sort.
  • Or, the SyncSort parm "UNINTDS" can be set (='YES') to allow SyncSort to handle this situation as well. A setting of 'NO' is the SYNCSORT default, but that stops processes (such as this) that don't need to be stopped.
