Technote (troubleshooting)
Problem(Abstract)
WebSphere Studio Asset Analyzer will lose text strings written in Japanese fonts with Adobe SVG viewer on Windows XP/Server 2003 with Windows update KB927489 or on Windows Vista.
Symptom
Display results of Adobe SVG viewer plug-in verification page
After (On Windows Vista or on Windows XP/Server2003 with KB927489)
Before (eg. on Windows XP w/o KB927489)
Cause
KB927489 is a Windows update for Windows XP and Windows Server 2003. It would change MS Gothic font and MS Mincho font according to the new JIS2004. JIS2004 is a new code page JIS X 0213:2004 which is an enhanced JIS X 0208:1997 (aka. JIS97) published by Japanese Industrial Standard (JIS). KB927489 contains new characters JIS2004 added and also include some design changes on existing character shapes.
KB927489 would not be automatically installed, but would be installed by Windows updates Custom Installation.
Windows Vista adopted JIS2004 as a standard for Japanese fonts.
Majority is still JIS97, and Japanese Windows users are confused with this double standard situation. Many applications (eg. Adobe's products) do not support JIS2004, and get the problem due to this change.
Our concern is that Adobe SVG Viewer would not support JIS2004, because Adobe will soon stop support for the viewer.
