This document outlines the specifics concerning SANergy and SUN Solaris' EFI labels.
Content
SUN has introduced EFI labels with Solaris 9 which allows UFS and QFS volumes to be larger than 1 terabyte. With the new EFI labels, Solaris writes its label to block 0 and block 1. SANergy historically uses block 1 for all management information. Consequently, if a SANergy client were to tag the device either in the device ownership panel of the SANergy setup tool, or using the command line interface, then SANergy may over-write the EFI label, thereby corrupting the partition. Even if the EFI label were left undisturbed, SANergy clients would not achieve accelerated speeds because SANergy may incorrectly interpret the volume data.
