Silent/Non-graphical install of Rational Quality Manager 2.0 on AIX

 News

Abstract
IBM Installation Manager can be used to perform a silent install of IBM Rational Quality Manager 2.0 on any supported platform. This document outlines the details of performing a silent install on the IBM AIX operating system. Silent installs are useful in an AIX environment when the prerequisites for a graphical install cannot be met.

Before installing Rational Quality Manager on a system running the AIX operating system, please ensure the following prerequisites are met:

  1. Rational Quality Manager installation image

    Depending on how the install image is obtained (CD image, download from jazz.net, download from Passport Advantage, etc), there should be a minimum of two directories in your install image: RQM_SETUP and RQM. Verify you have these directories.

  2. A silent install response file

    Response files contain the information normally provided in Installation Manager's graphical interface and should be customized for the location that you have downloaded Rational Quality Manager and the location you want to install to. Below is a sample of a response file which can be used to install Rational Quality Manager to its default location. It assumes the Rational Quality Manager images are in the /tmp/rqm directory on the AIX system.

    • <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
      <agent-input acceptLicense='true'>
      <server>
      <repository location='/tmp/rqm/RQM/disk1'/>
      </server>
      <profile installLocation='/opt/IBM/RQM20' id='IBM Rational Quality Manager 2.0'>
      <data key='eclipseLocation' value='/opt/IBM/RQM20'/>
      <data key='cic.selector.nl' value='en'/>
      </profile>
      <install modify='false'>
      <offering profile='IBM Rational Quality Manager 2.0' features='com.ibm.rqm.core' id='com.ibm.rational.rqm.2x'/>
      </install>
      <preference value='/opt/ibm/IBMIMShared' name='com.ibm.cic.common.core.preferences.eclipseCache'/>
      <preference value='30' name='com.ibm.cic.common.core.preferences.connectTimeout'/>
      <preference value='30' name='com.ibm.cic.common.core.preferences.readTimeout'/>
      <preference value='0' name='com.ibm.cic.common.core.preferences.downloadAutoRetryCount'/>
      <preference value='true' name='offering.service.repositories.areUsed'/>
      <preference value='false' name='com.ibm.cic.common.core.preferences.ssl.nonsecureMode'/>
      <preference value='false' name='com.ibm.cic.common.core.preferences.http.disablePreemptiveAuthentication'/>
      <preference value='true' name='com.ibm.cic.common.core.preferences.preserveDownloadedArtifacts'/>
      <preference value='false' name='PassportAdvantageIsEnabled'/>
      <preference value='false' name='com.ibm.cic.common.core.preferences.searchForUpdates'/>
      </agent-input>

    • Repository location should refer to the location of the RQM/disk1 directory in the image.
    • installLocation and eclipseLocation should refer to where Rational Quality Manager should be installed.
    • cic.selector.nl should refer to the language support to install. The response file can be placed anywhere on the AIX system.

    Installation Procedure

    These instructions assume that the Rational Quality Manager image was unzipped in /tmp/rqm and that the response file is /tmp/rqm/rqm_silent_install.xml. IBM Installation Manager has many options for logging or displaying different levels of output or logging. This example will show the most output. See below for a complete reference to silent install commands and flags.
    1. Make RQM_SETUP/InstallerImage_aix your current directory (e.g. /tmp/rqm/RQM_SETUP/InstallerImage_aix).

    2. Run the following command:
      • ./install --launcher.ini silent-install.ini -log -showVerboseProgress -input

      • Example:

        ./install --launcher.ini silent-install.ini -log /tmp/rqm_inst_log -showVerboseProgress -input /tmp/rqm/rqm_silent_install.xml

    3. The installation will run and provide status messages. After installation, Rational Quality Manager can be started normally.
