Problem
'ACN5929E Microsoft Exchange Server MAPI Client is not installed' error when installing FastBack for Exchange version 6.1.X
Symptom
A dialog box with the following error is seen when the install fails:
'ACN5929E Microsoft Exchange Server MAPI Client is not installed
Cause
This error is due to a missing installation of the Exchange MAPI component that was not installed on the Exchange server as listed in the FastBack for Exchange User Guide as part of the prerequisites.
Diagnosing The Problem
A trace of the failure will show a problem with the registry entry when verifying that the required MAPI dlls exist.
[3968] : registry.cpp ( 183): error opening HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE or HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT with a pathkey of SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Clients\Mail\ExchangeMAPI.
[3968] : psexcut2.cpp (2536): VerifyIMRPrereqs(): Failed to get SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Clients\Mail\ExchangeMAPI\DLLPathEx
[3968] : psexcut2.cpp (2685): Exit VerifyIMRPrereqs(), rc=402
During the MAPI installation, the MAPI dll should be placed in the directory that is indicated by the windows registry entry. To verify if this registry entry did not get updated correctly, verify the registry path that is listed in the trace output exists within the registry on this Exchange machine. If this entry does exist, verify if the path is pointing to the exmapi32.dll
Resolving The Problem
Review the User Guide for Installation prerequisites and install any components that are missing.
When performing an Individual Mailbox Restore with the Exchange 2007 or 2010 Server, the CDO MAPI is required for this processing. If the MAPI client is not found, the mailbox restore will fail.
If an earlier version of the MAPI client was installed on this machine, it is necessary to first perform an uninstall of the older MAPI software. An in-place upgrade will not correctly update the registry entries for the newer MAPI installation.
