How to use Tivoli Storage FastBack for Microsoft Exchange to recover mailboxes on an Exchange 2010 server that does not have the Client Access Server (CAS) role installed.

Troubleshooting

Problem

This document explains how to recover mailboxes on a Microsoft Exchange 2010 Server without having the Client Access Server role installed.

Resolving The Problem

In order to recover mailboxes on a Microsoft Exchange 2010 server that does not have the Client Access Server (CAS) role installed, you must use the following procedure:

  1. Install Update Rollup 2 for Exchange Server 2010 Service Pack 1 (KB 2425179). Further information is available on the Microsoft support website http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2425179/.
  2. Ensure FastBack for Microsoft Exchange is updated to version 6.1.2 or above.

FastBack for Microsoft Exchange will then use the local server as the CAS by default if the local server has the CAS role installed. The CAS defined by the current administrator's mailbox database will be used if the local server does not have the CAS role installed.

The name of the CAS server can be found by running the following Exchange Management Shell command:
Get-MailboxDatabase -Identity <current administrator's mailbox database> | select RpcClientAccessServer
