Certified and supported hardware types for Lotus Foundations

Technote (FAQ)

Question

What models of hardware are available for Appliance Support? What do "Certified" and "Supported" mean in relation to Lotus® Foundations Start hardware? What client configurations are supported?

Answer

SERVERS
Server hardware support is separated into four categories for Lotus Foundations Start:

Appliance Hardware - Component hardware and server hardware configurations identified as "Appliance Hardware" are configurations and versions of hardware and drivers that when mated with Lotus Foundations software entitles Support Provider for Lotus Foundations partners to contact the Lotus Foundations Support team for both hardware and software issues.

IBM Lotus Foundations Appliance, Model Number 9234-CNx and Model Number 9234-DNx

IBM x3200M3 Model Numbers: 7327-32x, 7328-32x, 7327-C1x, 7328-C1x 7328-E1x, 7328-E5x or 7327-AC1, 7328-AC1
CPU: Intel Core i or Xeon series
Memory: 4GB or more
Storage: 250 GB, 500 GB or 2TB Simple Swap SATA II only
Backup: IBM RDX Backup solution.
Network: Requires Intel Pro 1000 PT Server Adapter (Part Number 39Y6126)
Device support for Hardware RAID controllers, Tape Drives or any other option not mentioned above are incompatible and not supported.

Certified Hardware - Component hardware and server hardware configurations identified as "Foundations Certified" are configurations and versions of hardware and drivers that have been certification tested with the identified release(s) of the Foundations Start server program. IBM certifies "Foundations Certified" hardware for use with Foundations Start. This means IBM will take all reasonable measures to offer technical support and provide maintenance fixes to ensure Foundations Start operates successfully with the following certified hardware:

IBM x3200 M2 Simple Swap SATA Model Number: 4367-E1U
Requires Intel Pro 1000 PT Server Adapter (Part Number 39Y6126)

Supported Hardware - Component hardware and server hardware configurations the Foundations Start self burn-in test indicates are suitable at time of installation, or which are published by IBM Support as "Foundation Supported", are considered supported but not certified. IBM will make attempts to offer technical support and provide maintenance fixes to promote Foundations Start operating successfully. However, IBM reserves the right to discontinue support or defect fix efforts to make your particular hardware component, hardware driver or server configuration function with Foundations Start.

Hardware that is not certified should comply with the following minimum requirements:

- x86-based system
- At least one hard disk
- At least one additional hard disk (preferably removable) required to use idb Technology.
- At least one Network Interface Card (NIC) (two NICs required to use all available features)
- DVD-ROM drive
- VGA-based video card
- At least 2 GB of RAM (4 GB Recommended )
- Monitor
- Keyboard

For additional information on hardware needs, refer to the capacity planning document on the product Web site. For documentation on the burn-in test refer to the Lotus Foundations Compatibility and Diagnostics User Guide

Unsupported Hardware - From time to time IBM may indicate some known incompatibilities with hardware configurations, drivers or components and declare them as "Unsupported" for use with Lotus Foundations. Components, drivers and server configurations which fail to pass the full Foundations burn-in test (including the disk read-write testing) are also considered "Unsupported." IBM reserves the right to decline or discontinue support and fix efforts for any issues relating to "Unsupported" hardware, for any reason.

CLIENTS
A client workstation should meet the minimum hardware, software and operating system requirements expressed in the documentation and release notes for the client access method being used to connect with the Foundations server.

In Foundations Start, client access methods include:

- Web browser access to the Foundations Start Webconfig console
- The Lotus Notes® client bundled with Foundations Start
- Lotus iNotes via Web browser

For Webconfig console access and basic Foundations server access, the minimum requirement is an Internet Explorer 6 or Firefox 1.0.5 browser, and a workstation which meets the support requirements of that browser's vendor.

Please refer to the Foundations Start help documentation for the system requirements of the Lotus Notes and iNotes access methods.
