Updating Rationa®l Developer for System z™ to version 7.5.0.1 while any IBM patches are installed in the dropins directory may cause the workbench not to start.

Avoiding the Problem
If you have an <installation directory>\dropins directory on your system, where <installation directory> is the directory in which you installed Rational Developer for System z (by default this is C:\Program Files\IBM\SDP), do the following prior to updating to version 7.5.0.1 to avoid this problem:
  1. Delete any unneeded patches from the <installation directory>\dropins directory. Note that there may be patches for IBM products other than Rational Developer for System z in the dropins directory.
  2. If any patches are still required, open the subdirectory inside the <installation directory>\dropins directory that contains the required patch.
  3. If a file called artifacts.xml is present, rename it to artifacts.xml.backup.
  4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 for all patches that are installed and still required.
  5. Proceed with the version 7.5.0.1 update.

If you do not have an <installation directory>\dropins directory no action is required.

Resolving the Problem

To repair the workbench configuration, do the following:
  1. Locate the <installation directory>\configuration\config.ini file, where <installation directory> is the directory in which you installed Rational Developer for System z (by default this is C:\Program Files\IBM\SDP).
  2. Open the config.ini file with a text editor.
  3. Find the line that begins with "eclipse.application=" and delete the entire line.
  4. Find the line that begins with "osgi.splashPath=" and delete the entire line.
  5. Save the config.ini file.

The workbench should now start up successfully.
