Upgrades to Image Services 4.1.1 or 4.1.2 may fail due to MKF errors
|
| | | Abstract | A problem has been found when upgrading the IBM FileNet Image Services software to Image Services 4.1.1 or higher that can cause an upgrade to fail. After applying the Image Services 4.1.1 or 4.1.2 software and restarting the software, errors are written to the error log.

fn_util: error - MKF_ddl failed on perm database [6] | | | | | | Content | The errors are logged because the maximum columns per table is set to 24 in the permanent database. The maximum number of columns per table was set to 32 as of the Image Services 3.5.0 release. Sites reporting this problem have had releases prior to Image Services 3.5.0 on the server and are using an MKF block size of 1K.
As of Image Services 4.1.1, there were 8 additional columns added to docs table in the permanent database. This causes the number of columns in the docs table located in the permanent database to exceed 24 and the software will not start. The only solution is to roll the software on the server back to the previous release.
To prevent the problem from occurring, the number of columns in the permanent database must be verified before upgrading to Image Services 4.1.1 or higher. This can be done by running the following command while the Image Services software is running: Execute the following: $ MKF_dump /fnsw/dev/1/permanent_db0 Enter ?<cr> for help. MKF_dump: w+ MKF_dump: 1
Verify that the max cols per table parameter is set to 32 or higher as indicated by the "max cols per table” listing under the caption “DESCRIPTION – CONTROL PAGE” caption Example max cols per table 32 - As a precaution the transient database should also be verified.
Execute the following: $ MKF_dump /fnsw/dev/1/transient_db0 Enter ?<cr> for help. MKF_dump: w+ MKF_dump: 1
Verify that the max cols per table parameter is set to 32 or higher as indicated by the "max cols per table” listing under the caption “DESCRIPTION – CONTROL PAGE” caption Example max cols per table 32
The maximum columns per table for each database must be set to 32 or higher to upgrade to IS 4.1.1 or above. If it is not set to 32 or higher: - The databases must be exported
- The databases block size to 8K (or higher)
- The databases initialized the database
- The databases imported.
When the databases are initialized, the maximum number of columns per table will be set to the correct value.
The newer MKF database larger block size format was created for the improvements: - allow a larger amount of disk space to be addressed
- allow more concurrency for database updates and fewer deadlocks
The current MKF block sizes that are configured can be verified by viewing the MKF Databases tab in the fn_edit utility.
The procedures to convert the MKF databases are documented in the Image Services MKF Database Conversion Procedures document and it has been attached to this Flash Bulletin. | | | | | | | | |
