Abstract
IBM Rational Asset Manager, version 7.1.1 refresh pack contains fixes and enhancements to the v7.1 and 7.1.0.1 releases

Download Description
You can install this refresh pack when you install Rational Asset Manager, version 7.1. If version 7.1 is already installed on your computer, then you can install the fix pack as an update.

For more information on this refresh pack, including a list of new features, refer to techdoc 7014416 "Rational Asset Manager, Version 7.1.1 release information".

Prerequisites
This section describes the specific installation requirements for this refresh pack.

For information about the hardware and software for Rational Asset Manager, version 7.1, see the detailed system requirements document at: http://www.ibm.com/software/awdtools/ram/sysreq/index.html

Hardware requirements
There are no additional processor or memory requirements for installing this fix pack; however, there might be additional disk space requirements depending on whether you are installing the fix pack at the same time when you install Rational Asset Manager, version 7.1, or if you are installing the fix pack as an update:
  • If you are installing the fix pack at the same time you install Rational Asset Manager, Version 7.1, then the disk space requirements are not significantly different than for version 7.1.
  • If you are installing the fix pack as an update, then you might need up to an additional 2.5 GB of disk space. Your actual disk space requirements depend on how you installed version 7.1 of the product.

Software requirements

This section describes the additional software requirements for installing Rational Asset Manager, version 7.1.1. For information about prerequisites for installing Rational Asset Manager, version 7.1.1, see the see the Installation Guide online at: http://download.boulder.ibm.com/ibmdl/pub/software/rationalsdp/v7/ram/711/docs/install_instruction/install.html. The most recent English version of the Installation Guide is at http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenters/ramhelp/v7r1m1/index.jsp.

Before you can install this fix pack, you must install IBM Installation Manager, version 1.2.1. By default, if you attempt to update or install packages by using an earlier version of Installation Manager, IBM Installation Manager, version 1.2.1 is installed on your computer automatically.

Other requirements

To install updates, you must have Internet access. The updates are located and installed by Installation Manager directly from the IBM update repository for Rational Asset Manager, version 7.1.

Important: When Rational Asset Manager is installed, the location of its update repository is automatically embedded in Installation Manager. For Installation Manager to search the default update repository, the preference Search the linked repositories during installation and updates on the Repositories preference page must be selected. This preference is selected by default.

To install the fix pack from a different repository location (for example, if the fix pack is available on a shared drive or HTTP or HTTPS server), you must add the repository location in Installation Manager.

To add a repository location:

  1. Start Installation Manager.
  2. On the Start page of Installation Manager, click File > Preferences, and then click Repositories. The Repositories page opens.
  3. On the Repositories page, click Add Repository.
  4. In the Add repository window, enter the URL of the repository location or browse to it and enter a file path, and then click OK.
  5. Click OK to close the Preference page.

Installation Instructions
The following sections contain specific installation instructions for this refresh pack.

Before you install: exporting repository libraries created in Rational Asset Manager 7.1.0.1 or earlier
If you created or imported repository libraries using Rational Asset Manager 7.1.0.1 or earlier, you will be unable to manage those libraries in the interface of version 7.1.1. Importing older libraries to v7.1.1 can cause overwrite problems with your information model.

For more information and suggested workarounds to preserve your libraries, see technote 1329174 "Previously created or imported libraries do not appear on Libraries page."

Scenarios for installing Rational Asset Manager refresh pack 7.1.1
You can choose to follow one of two main paths to install IBM Rational Asset Manager refresh pack 7.1.1:
  • If IBM Rational Asset Manager, Version 7.1 server or Eclipse client application is already installed on your system, then you can install the fix pack as an update. For details, see Updating Rational Asset Manager to refresh pack 7.1.1.

  • If you are installing IBM Rational Asset Manager for the first time or if you are installing an additional instance of it, then you can install this refresh pack at the same time when you install IBM Rational Asset Manager, version 7.1.
For details, refer to Installing Rational Asset Manager refresh pack 7.1.1.

If your operating system is Windows, Linux®, or AIX®, then the update is downloaded (and installed, in some cases) by IBM Installation Manager directly from the IBM update repository. If your operating system is Linux for zSeries, or if you choose to download the update, refer to Downloading the refresh pack for local installations.

Downloading the refresh pack for local installations

If your operating system is Linux for zSeries, see Retrieving the Rational Asset Manager server refresh pack for Linux for zSeries.

You can download the compressed files available through this document that contain the Rational Asset Manager, version 7.1.1 refresh pack; the files that you extract from the compressed files form a repository for the refresh pack.

You require sufficient disk space to store and extract the compressed files.

To download and the refresh pack and configure Installation Manager to use the local repository, complete the following steps:

  1. Download the refresh pack from the download URL or URLs below.

  2. Extract the compressed files to an appropriate directory. For example, extract to C:\temp\updates. All compressed files must be extracted to the same directory.

  3. Add the refresh pack's repository location in IBM Installation Manager:

    1. Start IBM Installation Manager.

    2. On the Start page of Installation Manager, click File > Preferences, and then click Repositories. The Repositories page opens.

    3. On the Repositories page, click Add Repository.

    4. In the Add repository window, browse to or enter the file path to the diskTag.inf file, which is located in the disk1 sub-directory in the directory where you extracted the compressed files. For example, enter C:\temp\updates\disk1\diskTag.inf and then click OK.
    5. Click OK to close the Preference page.

  4. Install the refresh pack as described previously in this document.

Note: When updating from a local repository, Installation Manager might prompt you for the location of the repository for Rational Asset Manager, version 7.1. If you installed the product from CDs or other media, they must be available when you use the update feature.
