VisualAge C++ Professional for AIX, Version 5.0 contains two C++ compilers; a traditional command-line compiler and an incremental compiler accompanied by an associated Integrated Development Environment (IDE) and set of tools.
In the next release of VisualAge C++ Professional for AIX, IBM intends to withdraw the following:
Incremental C++ compiler
Integrated Development Environment (IDE) and related tools such as:
Data Access Builder (DAX)
Visual Builder
Performance Analyzer
LPEX editor
IBM resource compiler (irc)
IBM will continue to make enhancements to the traditional C and C++ compilers by implementing the latest features of the standards and continuing to improve on optimizations.
VisualAge C++ Professional for AIX, Version 5 introduced the new ISO C++ 1998 standard into the traditional C++ compiler. IBM will standardize on the features of the ISO C++ 1998 Standard, including the C++ Standard Library and the Standard Template Library (STL). IBM intends to withdraw support for the IBM Open Class Library in the next release of the VisualAge C++ for AIX. Documentation will be made available on this Web site to assist migration from IBM Open Class to the C++ Standard Library.
