Gateway May DeadLock with Configuration Stored in Database

Abstract
In a Lotus Mobile Connect v6.1, v6.1.1, or v6.1.1.1 environment, the Connection Manager may deadlock if configured to utilize a database to store its configuration information.

Technical Overview

The Connection Manager (aka Gateway) can be configured to store its configuration information utilizing one of three methods:

1) Local Data Store

2) Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP)

3) Relational Database (RBD)

In cases where the configuration information is stored in a relational database (local or remote), the Connection Manager may deadlock. The deadlock behavior does not occur if the configuration information is stored via LDAP, or if the configuration information is stored via a local data store.

Solution #1: APAR Codefix

APAR IZ08094 has been updated to provide a codefix to prevent the gateway from deadlocking. Please contact IBM L2 Support to obtain a copy of this codefix. Note: v6.1.2 GA or later of the gateway includes this codefix and may alternatively be installed to correct the issue.

Solution #2: Configuration Optimization

A non-code workaround is available which will also successfully prevent a deadlock from occurring. Instructions for this configuration change are noted in this Technote.
