Problem(Abstract)
WASX7017E is received when deploying WebSphere Service Registry and Repository V6.3.
 
Symptom
When deploying WebSphere Service Registry and Repository V6.3 to either WebSphere Application Server V6.1 or WebSphere Application Server V7.0, you see the following error:

[wsadmin] WASX7017E: Exception received while running file "C:\WEBSPH~1\SERVIC~1\63\install\\jython\configurewas.py"; exception information: com.ibm.bsf.BSFException: exception from Jython:
[wsadmin] Traceback (innermost last):
[wsadmin] File "<string>", line 133, in ?
[wsadmin] AttributeError: deployWSRR
BUILD FAILED
C:\WEBSPH~1\SERVIC~1\63\install\installsr.xml:362: The following error occurred while executing this line:
C:\WEBSPH~1\SERVIC~1\63\install\installsr.xml:496: Java returned: 105

 
Cause
This is caused by an attempt to install WebSphere Service Registry and Repository onto a server which is not able to execute the deployWSRR admin task.

There are several possible root causes, known ones include

  • attempting to install using a wsadmin port which is not for a dmgr or standalone server
  • attempting to install when the WSRRAdminTask.jar has not been copied into the lib directory for the server
 
Diagnosing the problem
The file <wsrr_install_dir>\install\wsrrdeployment.properties includes port information, for example
  • was.port=8880
 
Resolving the problem
1. Ensure that the port you are using is the port for a dmgr or standalone Application Server node, not a node agent or managed server. To correct the port, either
  • modify the port in wsrrdeployment.properties, or
  • rerun the install wizard and supply the SOAP port for a dmgr or standalone server

2. Ensure that the WSRRAdminTask.jar is available in the <WAS_INSTALL_DIR>/lib directory, if not, copy it there from <WSRR_INSTALL_DIR>/install/classes

If the problem persists, run the install batch or shell script, contact IBM support and supply a copy of <WSRR_INSTALL_DIR>/install/install.log
