Awareness load performance in Lotus Domino and Extended Products Portlets is slow

Technote (FAQ)

Question

Awareness in the Lotus® Domino® and Extended Products Portlets in IBM® WebSphere® Portal takes an extensive amount of time to load.

Answer

The authentication process can be slow because every 'verifytoken' request also searches the Lotus Sametime® server of the user. This issue was fixed in Sametime 7.0.

Excerpt from the Lotus Sametime 7.0 fix list (available at http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/lotus):

    Server crash and performance
SPR# YKUN66HC54 - The Sametime code uses generic code that used to ask the directory for the user's home server. Those unrequired calls cost in performance. This fix makes it so the generic calls can work without retrieving the Sametime server when it is not required
