Data Protection for Exchange and TSM client requirements
The Microsoft Exchange VSS Integration Module is used in conjunction with Data Protection for Microsoft Exchange and the Tivoli Storage Manager Windows client. Together, these implement the VSS requestor interface to drive the Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy Services for backup and recovery of Exchange. With the addition of the Hardware Devices Snapshot Integration Module customers can also get the VSS Instant Restore function on SVC.

VSS Provider
The VSS provider is the snapshot mechanism used to create the volume shadow copies. This mechanism may be implemented in software or in a VSS capable storage subsystem that strictly adheres to the Microsoft VSS provider interface. Following is a list of examples:

- IBM TotalStorage DS series with IBM TotalStorage Support for Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy Service
- IBM TotalStorage DS4000 series with the Engenio Microsoft VSS/VDS Provider
- IBM TotalStorage SAN Volume Controller with IBM TotalStorage Support for Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy Service
- IBM TotalStorage N series with SnapDrive support for Microsoft Volume Shadow Services
- NetApp FAS series with SnapDrive support for Microsoft Volume Shadow Services

- For VSS Instant Restore function:
-- The Hardware Devices Snapshot Integration Module

-- IBM TotalStorage SAN Volume Controller V2.1.4, or later, or V3.1
with IBM TotalStorage Support for Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy Service and Virtual Disk Services (includes the SAN Volume Controller Master Console)

The IBM TotalStorage Support for Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy and Virtual Disk Services is provided in IBM TotalStorage DS Open API package V5.1.0.17, or later V5.1.x levels. The following Web page describes IBM TotalStorage DS Open API
