Continually prompted to install DWA 6 control even though already installed from Domino 7.0.2 server
|
| | This document applies only to the following language version(s): English | | | | Abstract | | The Domino Web Access 6 Active X control constantly attempts to download when a mail file based on the iNotes6.ntf design from a Domino 7.0.2 server is in use. | | | | | | | Content | You have recently upgraded your Lotus® Domino® servers from 6.5.x to 7.0.2. The mail files of some of the users are based on the iNotes6.ntf template design, and others are based off the DWA7.ntf design. When a Lotus® Domino® Web Access (DWA) user whose mail file is based on iNotes6.ntf attempts to access their mail, and open a new message, the following pop up occurs:
If the user selects "Yes" to accept the install, the Domino Web Access 6 Control (also known as an Active X Control) is installed. However, each time the user then opens a new message or closes their mail file in DWA, the same pop up appears. The only solution to suppress the pop ups is to select "Always trust content from International Business Machines Corporation" in the pop up.
This problem is reproducible only with the iNotes6.ntf template, which uses the Domino Web Access 6 Active X control, from a Domino 7.0.2 server. If the user has a DWA7.ntf template, which uses the Domino Web Access 7 Active X control, the problem does not occur.
If the user selects "No" instead of "Yes" to the pop up the following error occurs:
"Microsoft Internet Explorer
The installation of iNotes6 Class has been blocked or declined by the user. do you want to use this on subsequent Domino Web Access pages?" It appears that either the browser or the Domino server is not recognizing the already installed Active X control.
This issue was reported to Quality Engineering, and is fixed in Domino 7.0.2 Fix Pack 1 (FP1) and Domino 7.0.3. Excerpt from the Lotus Domino Release 7.0.2 FP1 fix list (available at developerWorks:Lotus): SPR# BCOE6V5RF2 - Prior to this fix, a user was prompted to download a new activeX cab file after creating a new memo or meeting with a Domino Web Access enabled mail file (based on dwa6.ntf). The user will not be prompted to download the cab file if they have configured to always accept IBM, in which case they will not see the download take place. This regression was introduced in 7.0.2. Excerpt from the Lotus Domino Release 7.0.3 MR fix list (available at developerWorks:Lotus): SPR# TMDS6UNTK5 - Fixed a problem where the user was being prompted to install the DWA 6 Active X control, even though it was already installed.
Refer to the Upgrade Central site for details on upgrading Notes/Domino.
This issue occurs because the incorrect versions of certain files for the DWA 6.x (iNotes6.ntf) mail design shipped with Domino 7.0.2 Server.
The solution is to replace the problem files with the correct versions. To obtain the correct file versions, refer to the download document titled "Files to replace iNotes6 related files included with Domino 7.0.2 server" (#4013870).
You will be replacing these files currently on your Domino 7.0.2 server with the correct versions of the same files.
| File | Location | | inotes6.cab | \data\domino\html | | inotes6W.cab | \data\domino\html | | inres6_en.dll | \data\domino\html | | n_SHIMMER6_en.inf | \data\domino\html\download\filesets | | n_SHIMMER6_en.exe | \data\domino\html\download\filesets |
Workarounds to consider if you cannot replace these files immediately:
1. Select the checkbox "Always trust content from International Business Machines Corporation" in the Security Warning pop up. Note: This will alleviate the pop up; however, the Active X control will still download every time, so you may experience a delay when performing certain actions such as opening mail messages, creating mail messages, etc.
or
2. Upgrade to the DWA7.ntf template.
or
3. Disable the download of the Active X control in the Server Configuration document by going to the Domino Web Access tab, and in the Other Settings section, selecting "Disable" for the option "Domino Web Access Active X File attachment utility". Note: You must restart the HTTP task on the server (Tell http restart) in order for this change to take effect. | | | | | | | | | |
