Question
A Lotus® Domino® server is running release 5.0.12, and users access their mail files on the server via Lotus® Domino® Web Access (iNotes™ Web Access). After the server is upgraded from 5.0.12 to 6.5.2 the following error appears on the server console:

    [33780:00023-06940] <date> 08:34:21   HTTP Server: Error - Memory allocation error, out of system memory
    [33780:00026-07711] AllocMemHandle: OUT OF PRIVATE HANDLES! -- pid 000083F4 Handles used so far 512, Maximum handles = 147455, error = 0x107
    [33780:00013-04370] AllocMemHandle: OUT OF PRIVATE HANDLES! -- pid 000083F4 Handles used so far 512, Maximum handles = 147455, error = 0x107

The server eventually crashes:
    [33780:00013-04370] TID=[33780:00013-04370]/K-TID=200303
    Stack base=0x34FE6F90, Stack size = 54704 bytes

Answer
This issue has been reported to Quality Engineering as SPR# GVAS65HG8W, and there are no plans to address it. The "Out of private handles" error is a known issue which can occur when the HTTP server is using Notes managed memory.
The workaround is to configure HTTP to use operating system (OS) memory. To do this, set the following values in the server's notes.ini file:

HTTPUseNotesMemory=0
INotesUseNotesMemory=0

At least in one case, recovering the iNotes template from the release 5 version and storing it into the Server solved the issue.
