MustGather: High Availability (HA) Deployment Manager

Troubleshooting

Problem

Collecting data for problems with the IBM WebSphere Extended Deployment Highly-Available (HA) Deployment Manager (dmgr) component. Gathering this MustGather information before calling IBM support will help you understand the problem and save time analyzing the data.

Resolving The Problem

Highly-Available (HA) Deployment Manager specific MustGather information
There are two areas that can cause problems in the HA dmgr area, configuration and runtime. The following will be broken down into two areas, Configuration and Runtime. Determine which area you are having a problem with and collect the data requested for that area.

  • Configuration Problem

  • This consists of two scripts that allow you to add and remove the HA dmgr. Ensure that the user performing the following commands has proper permissions and ample disk space available for output:

      xd_hadmgrAdd.bat/sh
If you running the xd_hadmgrAdd command and you are receiving a port conflict, add the uniquePort parameter to the command. See the information center xd_hadmgrAdd command page for further information.

      xd_hadmgrRemove.bat/sh

      Collect the following information:

      1. Identify which command is causing the issue.

      2. Include the exact command and parameters you are using.

      3. Enable tracing on the ODR process(es):

      com.ibm.ws.xd.*=all

      4. Run the HA Deployment Manger command (add/remove) with -trace and -logfile parameters to capture what is occurring with the Add or Remove processes.
      • When you use -trace the output file gets created to hadmgrRemove.log unless you specify a different name.
      • If you have run the -trace already you will want to add the -replacelog parameter. If you do not, you will keep appending to the log file. This will keep the files small and current to the trace that is being requested.

      5. Run the collector tool on each install.

      6. Send All collector tool output to support.

  • Runtime Problem

  • This consists of the On Demand Router (ODR) and the two Deployment Managers once you have completed the setup and are attempting to run or are up and running.

      Collect the following information:

      1. Description of the issue with HA dmgr.

      2. Enable tracing in the WebSphere Extended Deployment cell:
      1. Enable tracing on both of the dmgr processes:

      2. *=info:com.ibm.ws.xd.admin.hadmgr.*=all:
        com.ibm.ws.odc.*=all:com.ibm.ws.console.hadmgr.*=all

      3. Enable tracing on the ODR process(es):

      4. com.ibm.ws.xd.*=all

      3. Recreate the error condition with HA dmgr.

      4. Run the collector tool on each install.

      5. Send all collector tool output to support.

Follow instructions to send diagnostic information to IBM support.
