Abstract
Include no more than 50 members in each core group when creating a dynamic cluster in IBM® WebSphere® Extended Deployment Versions 6.1 and 6.0.2.

Content
For optimal performance, do not exceed a maximum number of 50 application servers, node agents, and on demand routers per core group when you create a dynamic cluster. A dynamic cluster cannot span multiple core groups. If you already have over 50 servers in your core group, you can use the coregroupsplit.py script to split your existing cell into multiple core groups. For more information, see Creating dynamic clusters.
Core groups are an implementation of a group messaging system. This implementation requires a synchronization and control protocol that involves all running core group members. Additionally, the implementation requires that all running core group members are fully connected to all other running core group members using the network. One process acts as the focal point and coordinates the activities across all running core group members. As the number of members increases, both the number of messages that are sent and received and the data payload in the messages increases. The combination of these two factors makes the growth nonlinear.
