Setting SQL configuration parameter 'DescribeParam' to 0 results in a failure on the IBM WebSphere DataPower SOA Appliance

Question & Answer

Question

I configured an SQL Data source object with the configuration parameter 'DescribeParam' set to 0 and now all my SQL calls fail with an error message similar to the following: [0x818000a7][sql][error] sql-source(SQL_DSO): tid(1234567): Database reported query error: CLI0150E Driver not capable. SQLSTATE=HYC00 Is this expected?

Cause

DataPower needs DESCRIBEPARAM to be set to 1 so it can retrieve the required information in order to successfully bind the SQL statement(s) to the database.

Answer

Yes, this behavior is expected. Setting the 'DESCRIBEPARAM' configuration parameter to 0 will result in the SQL failure noted above since DataPower needs the parameter to be set to 1. The DESCRIBEPARAM parameter must therefore be restored to its original value of 1.
