Abstract
IBM WebSphere Application Server Community Edition V2.1.1.2 is a lightweight Open Source-based Application Server which is certified to the Java™ Enterprise Edition 5 (Java EE 5) specification.

WebSphere Application Server Community Edition streamlines the creation of applications such as departmental apps by providing the baseline components needed to deploy applications in one integrated package. With WebSphere Application Server Community Edition, you can get started with no up-front costs and can rely upon optional world class IBM support offerings. A path to more advanced capability is provided through the WebSphere Application Server family.

Note that WebSphere Application Server Community Edition V2.1.1.2 is a service refresh release over the WebSphere Application Server Community Edition V2.1 release. For the details about the WebSphere Application Server Community Edition V2.1 release, visit this link.

This service refresh release is based on Apache Geronimo Server 2.1.4 and Geronimo Eclipse plug-in 2.1.4. It includes many defect fixes from Apache Geronimo and many additional fixes on top of it from IBM. Significant additional patches provided in this service refresh release are as follows.

  • Ability to run the server as operating system service on Windows
  • Support for new versions of LDAP servers as recommended
  • Support for new versions of database management systems as recommended
  • Support for IBM Java SDK 1.6.0 Service Release 4 and Support for IBM Java SDK 1.5.0 Service Release 9
