Calculating TEC event severity from ITM 6.1 Events

 Technote (FAQ)

Question
When an ITM 6.1 event is forwarded to TEC using the TEC Integration Facility, what severity will the event be seen in TEC processing.

Cause
Events are transmitted using the TEC Integration Facility and specific rules are used to determine what severity the event will have in the TEC environment.

Answer
TEC severity is determined by (in order of precedence)

1. TEC severity value specified in the tecserver.txt file

2. SEV= parm in the SITINFO column of the situation definition (product provided or cloned product provided situations only)

3. Suffix of the situation name (?_Cri?, ?_Crit?, ?_Critical? will be assigned CRITICAL and ?_Warn?, ?_Warning? will be assigned WARNING)

4. If none of the above, UNKOWN will be used

For point 2, you can control SEV= in Portal situation editor.
In the file:

Windows: c:\ibm\itm\cnps the kfwenv file
Unix: <install_dir>/config the cq.ini file

add or change the following line:

KFW_CMW_SET_TEC_SEV=Y

Each time the Portal situation editor is used, the SITINFO will be updated to match the Portal severity definition. The result will be that when you edit a situation in Portal and set the severity, that same severity will be sent to TEC [if not in tecserver.txt control file].
