Performing a non-default installation for products on AIX 5.2 and AIX 5.3 with August 2007 (and later) PTFs

Problem(Abstract)
Due to the common-component updates first shipped with the August 2007 PTFs, the non-default installation tool (NDI script) from previous PTFs must be updated before installing the August 2007, as well as future, PTFs to a non-default location.
In general, the NDI tool version and the version of the compiler PTF to be installed should match. For example, NDI tool from PTF 1 should not be used to install PTF 2, and vice versa.
 
Resolving the problem
After installing the NDI fileset from the GA product, but before running the NDI script, you must install the PTF for the applicable *.ndi fileset.
Examples:

For XL C Enterprise Edition V8.0 for AIX.
(NDI PTF fileset: vac.ndi.08.00.0000.0016.bff)
use the command:
/usr/sbin/installp -agd location_of_PTF_images -e location_of_log_file vac.ndi

For XL C/C++ Enterprise Edition V8.0 for AIX
(NDI PTF fileset: vacpp.ndi.08.00.0000.0016.bff)
use the command:
/usr/sbin/installp -agd location_of_PTF_images -e location_of_log_file vacpp.ndi

For XL Fortran Enterprise Edition V10.1 for AIX
(NDI PTF fileset: xlf.ndi.10.01.0000.0006.bff)
use the command:
/usr/sbin/installp -agd location_of_PTF_images -e location_of_log_file xlf.ndi


After the applicable NDI PTF fileset has been successfully installed, you can continue following the installation guide by running the NDI tool to install the GA and PTF compilers at the desired locations.
