Overview
The US Energy Policy Act of 2005 alters Daylight Saving Time (DST) start and stop dates by four weeks. Please refer to the US Department of Energy Web site for more information about the Energy Policy Act of 2005.

Several countries (including Canada, Bermuda and New Zealand) are also implementing DST changes; other countries may decide to make similar changes to DST rules.

Extended Daylight Saving Time for United States and Canada began in March of 2007.

Extended Daylight Saving Time for Western Australia began on 3 December 2006. The dates affected are as follows:

26 October 2008 - 29 March 2009

UPDATE: New Zealand DST changes went into effect on 30-Sep-2007. If the JTZU will be used to update WRS systems (based on the links below), be sure to use JTZU version 1.3.7f or greater to pick up the New Zealand updates.

Due to this change, actions are required to update the systems where the WebSphere Remote Server components are located. The tables and instructions below will provide guidance on how to update systems installed with WebSphere Remote Server components.

In general, the following steps should be performed on each of these systems to ensure they are updated to handle the DST changes:
  1. Update the operating system with instructions from that OS vendor
  2. If necessary, patch the JRE's on the system using the IBM Time Zone Update Utility for Java (JTZU).
  3. Apply any IBM product-specific patches.

Operating Systems

The table below contains links for the Operating Systems supported for the WebSphere Remote Server and the WebSphere Central Site Server. The actions that are necessary to bring your Operating System to compliance can be determined as follows:
  1. Locate your Operating System version in the table shown below.
  2. Follow the link to the Extended DST information web page for your Operating System to obtain instructions for required updates.
  3. Follow the instructions noted on the web page to bring the Operating System to compliance.

IBM WebSphere Products

The table below contains links for the IBM software products that are part of IBM WebSphere Remote Server. The actions that are necessary to keep these software products compliant with the Extended DST changes can be determined as follows:
  1. Locate the table for your WebSphere Remote Server version shown below.
  2. Follow the link to the Extended DST Web page for each IBM software product listed in the appropriate table to obtain instructions for required updates.
  3. Follow the instructions for each product to bring the product to compliance.

IBM Time Zone Update Utility for Java (JTZU)

The IBM Time Zone Update Utility for Java (JTZU) is used to apply preventive service to IBM products that imbed an IBM Java SDK/JRE.

The JTZU tool delivers changes needed for:
  • US, Canada, Bermuda, and the Bahamas: Adjusting the DST start and end dates for 2007 and beyond.
  • Western Australia: Providing support for DST starting on 03 December 2006.
  • Brazil: Adjusting the DST start date for 2006 and the end date in February 2007.
  • UPDATE: New Zealand DST changes (30-Sep-2007) are included in JTZU version 1.3.7f or greater.

Validating Daylight Saving Time Changes

Additional information concerning the Daylight Saving Time changes can be found on the page Guidance on updating Java SDKs and JREs for Daylight Saving Time (DST) changes. The section titled Validating Daylight Saving Time Changes will assist in validating that the changes have been applied correctly.
